What can I do about my meltdown tantrum throwing child?
Any time I try to go anywhere with my two year old son, he runs away and I can’t get anything done. We try to go to the grocery store and he gets out of the cart and takes off running. I try buckling him in and he gets out, I put him in the back part and he gets out. He will just launch himself over the side and take off. If I try to grab him to hold his hand, he then throws himself on the ground. I have a harness and if I don’t let him go the way he wants, he throws himself on the ground and kicks and screams. He can get out of a the five point harness on my stroller in two seconds flat. If I try to tell him it hurts my feelings or I don’t like it, he doesn’t care. He is too busy throwing a tantrum to listen. I am getting sick of leaving cart after cart of groceries at stores and never being able to get anything done. I am a stay at home mom and if I have an errand to run, I have to do it after he goes to bed at night and I am just over it. I have tried timeouts, bribery, hugging him, swatting his bottom, talking to him to tell him I don’t appreciate it….NOTHING WORKS! Does anyone have any kind of advice on what to do so that I can get something done?
I have taken him to the store for "play time" sometimes for up to two hours. Every trip is not under a time constraint. But I would like to get what I came for on trips when I need things. We have gone right after breakfast, after nap time, with snacks etc. And I would never tell my child to "sit down and shut up." Perhaps that is the kind of parenting you do but I do not.
