Anyone have tingling in their arm(s) or fingertips from carrying infant car seat?

I tend to carry my daughter in the crook of my left arm when she’s in her infant carrier. Could this have pinched a nerve and caused tingling in my arm and fingertips? Anyone else have this problem?

I did a few times. Since my son passed that stage, I’ve learned how uncomfortable and potentially damaging carrying those seats can be and I actually probably won’t buy one again. There’s been a surge of new moms reporting back injuries b/c of the awkward position you are put in to carry one. While I doubt that you are doing permanent damage, that doesn’t help you feel better.
I would definitely advise quite carrying the darn thing! A sling, pouch, or wrap is a much easier way for carrying baby. It evenly distributes the child’s weight, so you don’t get back, hip, or arm pain, and as a bonus, it lasts 3-4 times as long as that infant seat! Since many slings hold up to 35-40lbs. They also offer a lot of versatility – carrying baby on front, back, hip, cradle style (lying down) facing in, facing out, you can even nurse with baby in one. Definitely skip the Snugli/Baby Bjorns. They cost too much for what they offer: a complicated to use carrier that only lasts to 22lbs and only offers 1-2 ways to carry baby. All for $30-$40. For the same or a little more, you can have a much better one. Pouches are the easiest to use, just make sure you get the right size – slip it over your head and you’re good to go. A wrap will offer the most versatility, but is a little tougher to learn to use. Some come with DVDs though to help learn. Slings are the most common, and are about mid way in easy. Yes it can. Carrying infant seats is horrible for your arms, as well as your back. Don’t use the infant carrier and just carry your baby.

Well carrying it in the crook of your elbow then yes that would definitely cause your arm to become tingly. You are putting pressure on your artery causing your circulation to be cut off to the rest of your arm and hands. As long as your not carrying the car seat for hours like this then you aren’t doing damage. but if it bothers you then I would recommend carrying the car seat in your hand.
Carrying your baby in a carrier like that is murder on your back, neck and shoulders. Even if you hold the carrier in your hand, that is a lot of weight to have on one side of your body, and since you often have to hold the carrier at an awkward angle in order to keep it from hitting your legs, you are putting that much more strain on your body, and putting your spine out of alignment.
Either snap the carrier into a stroller, or better yet, ditch the carrier entirely and carry your baby in your arms, a sling, or a Baby Bjorn-type carrier. It allows you to have more physical contact with your baby, it gives her less time that she is lying in a hard carrier and possibly flattening the back of her head, and it will be much better for your spine and posture.
