The infant seats must have a certain amount of recline to them because infants do not have control of their neck muscles. Putting an infant in a more upright position would be dangerous. So no, I’m afraid the answer is a bigger car, not a different carseat.
ETA… I might add that by the time you are ready for a second car seat, your first born will be forward facing and will not initially have the same issue until his legs get long enough to start kicking your seat.
Put the baby on one side. I had to do that because I had to have the seat back so far in my Subaru wagon. Then I got a Cadillac and kept her on the side because the middle was hard to get her to when she got bigger. Hey…my Caddy is for sale. Want to buy it? LOL
I would imagine you’ve got three realistic options. One, you can wait on having another kid until your first one doesn’t need a car seat. Two, you can be cramped a little if needed and not push your seat back all the way. Three, you can buy a minivan or something where leg space isn’t an issue. If that’s too loserish for ya, you can buy a bumper sticker that says, "I will never drive a minivan" from http://www.iusedtobecool.com.
infant seats need to be reclined alot because a child that small cannot hold their head up well enough yet. i suggest getting a mini van. this way you can put your older child in the back row and your infant in the middle row and still have space to move your seat all the way back.
add: I used to think mini vans were way too soccer mom and i’d feel like a loser in it but i have one now and I LOVE IT!!!! there is so much space and the ride is really nice. I only have one baby so far but between him, a couple neices and my girl guides troop the van comes in REALLY handy!
2nd add: my brother in law is also 6’7" and he fits in our van with no problems
so… its more important for you to be comfortable than for your baby to be safe? what about when he falls asleep, does he have good head control then!?!?!??
