After he/she gets his first vaccinations it is then safe to take them into a crowded space where he/she may be exposed to illnesses in the air.
EDIT: I say leave the baby with daddy and trust his fatherly instincts. Giving the baby formula for 1 weeks is really not a big deal. If you could try to pump as soon as your milk comes in and save as much as you can in the freezer, your husband could feed the baby breast milk. Just make sure you continue to pump while you are with your brother as you wouldn’t want to dry up. Best of luck.
While you ‘can’ travel and fly with a two-week-old baby, it doesn’t mean that you should.
You will have to check with the specific airline that you are using. American Airlines, for example, says that they don’t allow younger babies to fly, including ‘newborn babies (within seven days of delivery) unless parent or guardian has a medical certificate indicating travel is authorized.’ So a two-week-old would be allowed to fly.
Again, that doesn’t mean that it is a good idea, though.
Most experts advise that you limit a newborn’s and younger infant’s exposure to large groups of people so that they don’t get sick. Traveling through an airport, on an airplane, and then visiting a lot of family would likely expose your child to viral illnesses and other infections, which is the main issue about safe travel with a baby. It’s not so much the oxygen levels, the pressured cabin on the plane, or the effects of high altitude. Also, there is no proven risk between airplane travel and SIDS.
Travel would also be stressful for both a new mom and the baby at that time, especially if your flight was delayed or canceled. Add to that all the supplies that you need for your newborn, including clothes, diapers, bottles, etc., and of course, a car seat for the plane, and travel can be especially difficult.
Unless travel was more essential, like if you just adopted a baby and need to get back home, it might be best to wait until your baby was older, with a more mature immune system and on a more predictable schedule, when he was two to three months old.
Keep in mind that neither the American Academy of Pediatrics nor the FAA have specific recommendations or advice about traveling with newborn babies besides the general advice about proper use of a car seat. So if you are determined to fly with your baby, get your own pediatrician’s opinion, bring some help with you, get a nonstop flight, fly during an off-peak time, and be prepared for everything.
Would a bus or train be better? Not really, since you would be exposing your baby to just as many people as you would on a plane.
anytime……but the people around you may not like it…….
You can take him. It is no damage. You’ll just be struggling really hard to keep him happy && comfy.
put it into your luggage at any age….
I flew with mine at 4 weeks. He did extremely well i held him the entire time! Just feed him or give him a pacifier when you are taking off so his ears dont pop! Also make sure to have a blanket because its cold! It is very aquishy so if your sat next to a bigger person or a jerk it will be rougher. If you go up to the desk and tel them you are traveling with a young baby they will help you and you can leave ur carry ons right there and they will put it under the plane. I highly suggets only takign his diaper bag actually on the plane. your baby and the diaper bag is enough to keep your hands full. Also if you buy the pre made formula they are not suppose to open it and if the do they use a lil strip and put it above the liquid so either way it works out. Also you can take bottles of water and say its for the baby. =) Make sure you check with the airport some will allow the water some will not.
Check with the airlines to see what restrictions may apply.
Check passport requirements for your infant.
other tips:
infants and toddlers do not understand cabin pressure – so they tend to cry on the ascent and descent a lot – esp if they have sensitive ears.
pack a small diaper bag for the cabin & change him on your lap (easier than using the toilet cubes) — use handy wipes, odor-reducing disposal bags, & other easy to dispose of products.
Disposable bottle liners or breast feeding are easiest.
what does your doctor say about your donation? in your condition?
check the airlines for restrictions re: age of babies etc
sounds to me like you should consider your immediate family, husband, baby etc before anyone else
I took my baby on a plane when she was 2 1/2 weeks old. They can travel as soon as you are out of the hospital, if you are worried about that then ask your doctor about this situation.
You can fly with your baby at any age, but ask the airline for their guidelines. All you need is a diaper bag and if you are Breastfeeding your baby is protected from most bugs that you can contract on a airplane.
But I would be concerned about you donating bone marrow after just having the baby and losing alot of blood in the process. You need at least six weeks to recover from birth. You don’t want to put your or your baby at risk.
Who is going to look after the baby while you are in surgery? Just something to think about.
Good Luck!
