Baby wraps/slings/carriers?
I really want some form of baby carrier. I like the idea better than having to manouver bulky strollers or carriers. But I don’t know which type to get. Any suggestions? I’ve heard good things about the Moby wrap and the maya wrap. I’ve been warned to stay away from the baby bjorn but I still kind of like it. I want something comfortable and nondescript, nothing too brightly colored or patterned, nothing that screams neo-hippie earth goddess.

I have an Ergo. I love it. It is so comfy! Personally I wanted something that was structured (the wraps seem neat, but scare me.) Also it is up to 40lb! My son is 7 months old and 20lb and I can’t even tell I am carrying! I’m telling you this thing is great!
Ergo is a bit spendy (100 – 150) – but so worth it!
Before I got the Ergo I was looking into Baby Hawk Oh Snap. I have also heard good things about Beco.
We have a moby wrap and I love it BUT it can be a pain to put on. I use it if i know she’ll be in it for a while, like the mall. If its just a short trip like the grocery store we use the Baby Bjorn.
We have a Chicco baby carrier. Bought it at Sears baby section. We have not used it yet, but I know someone who has one and loves it. It’s black and simple design. Reasonable price too.

I have thried nearly all the kind ther are and the Bjorn is the best…..you just need to make sure the straps are adjusted to fit you…I think many people dont do this and then wonder why the Bjorn hurts them. They re strong and comfortble for you and the baby.
I LOVE the Baby Bjorn Active… it has support that goes all the way down your back and the baby is able to face in or out. My baby loves it, and can sit facing out in it for a couple of hours! The only thing I don’t like about the Baby Bjorn Active is the price. It retails for almost $200 (where I live), so it is better to try and find one second hand if you can. I have tried on the Baby Bjorn original, and it isn’t nearly as comfortable.
I also have the Baby Hawk. I liked that more when my baby was smaller. I also like it because it’s super cute. It probably screams neo-hippy earth goddess though…
Personally I would stay far away from the products where the infant faces towards you, there have been too many news articles about infants being suffocated either by pressing into the parent’s clothing or the straps.
We love our Moby wraps and our Ergo carrier. I think you’ll like the Ergo.
Get the Ergo baby carrier. I hear nothing but great things about it. I have a Moby and its nice, but it can be a pain as it loosens and then I have to take her out and try to tighten it while holding her. I definitely plan to get an Ergo with my next child.
I have an Ergo and I love it. It’s so comfortable, soft and easy to use. I also have a Moby and it’s ok, but it stretches too much and there is a learning curve to using it. If you’re going to go the Moby route get a Moby D which has a silk panel that won’t stretch out while you’re wearing baby. I also have a ring sling, I’m not a fan of it right now, but I think when my daughter is older and has better head control, it will be good for carrying her on my hip.
I’ve also heard good things about the Beco and Babyhawk.
Good Luck!
