Can you install an infant carrier base behind the driver’s seat instead of in the middle?
I went to the DMV to have my infant carrier base installed and they put it in the center of the backseat, telling me that was the safest. I have a new VW Jetta Wagon. It has the latch system but only on the two sides, not in the middle. It was hard for the guy to get it in properly with a tight enough fit. My husband thinks it should be installed on one of the sides instead of the middle. He also thinks it should be easy to take in and out for when we need to lay down the back seat to transport something large. I thought it should be professionally installed and then left alone. But, that takes away from a big part of the functionality of the car. We really need to be able to lay down the back seat sometimes. Has anyone else run into this? Do you leave your car seat base in place? Do you always have to put them in the middle?

The middle is supposed to be the safest, but there is nothing wrong with putting it to one of the sides. Check with your state laws to be sure.
We felt the same way about it being professionally installed, but reality set in quickly and we’ve become experts in putting the seat in and out as needed.
anywhere theres a seat belt… and easier and better on the other side so one can see whats going on and its nothing to run the belt thru the slots in car seat i do it every day ive never had it in the middle always to one side or the other or front seat depends on who is riding in car at the time
Yes you can but the middle is the safest because it has the highest rated crumple zone of the vehicle plus if you need to look back at your child you will not have to take your eyes of the road, you can use the rear-view mirror…..
