Car seat Help, for an infant?
I have a baby boy who weights close to 20 pounds and will be 8 months old October 20. The rear facing infant seat he is currently in only goes up to 22 pounds, so it’s getting kind of small.
What type of car seat should I get him? What brand? Things to look for in the seat? Safety? Personal experience?

A 3 in 1 is probably your best bet as it will still be rear facing until baby is one year old and then can go all the way up to 80 pounds (40 lbs with the internal harness and then remove the harness and use the shoulder/lap belt until 80 lbs.) Something like the Alpha Omega or one of the Eddie Bauer 3 in 1′s.
Evenflo Triumph Lx
I just bought this and installed it and it is so easy to install and use. The price was about $150 in Illinois. I ordered it online and got free shipping. My wife also reasearched it and found it was rated high for saftey. Overall we are very happy with it.
In my experience and opinon, a five-point harness is the most important factor. Since he is only 8 months, make sure you can put it in facing to the rear. My son was big for his age and pound-wise could have faced forward, but the problem is when they are still young they don’t have the necessary head strength to hold their head back if you were to get in an accident (god-forbid). I have an Evenflo, but I can’t remember which one. I got it at Sam’s Club for about $65 and am very pleased with it. Easy to put in and take out of the car, can face forward or backward, and has 5-point harness.
You now need a convertible car seat. I got the Fisher Price Voyager Deluxe, made by Britax.
I have a Britax and love it! It is so easy to use, and goes up to a higher weight limit-rear facing to 33 pounds and forward facing until 65 pounds. It is one of the safest car seats out there.

Yup – a convertible carseat. He should rearface to the limits of whatever seat you get him. It’s much safer. We have 2 Britax Marathons and love them. They are pricey, but worth it. Easy to install, easy to use and will last to 65lbs harnessed forward facing.
