Yes, car seats do expire. Many car seats actually have a manufacturer’s date on them for when they expire. It’s usually about six years. This is because over time the plastic degrades, becoming brittle and therefore not as safe as it once was. The other reason is because safety regulations are constantly being upgraded for child’s car seats. If you have a car seat that is older than six years than I would replace it.
car seats only expire when the child out grows them. but they can be recalled so it is good to fill out the warrantry cards
They only expire when the child grows out of them.
All car seats have a manufacturing date stamped on it. If it is 10 years or older, you need to dispose of the car seat as it is considered unsafe (not meeting current safety standards). Also, not that you asked, but it is illegal to buy/sell used car seats as the history is uncertain — for example, if it had been in an automobile accident, the car seat has been compromised. If there is ever any question about recalls, go to the manufacturer website as they are required to post. Recently, they are asking owners to register their new car seats with the manufacturer in order to reach them should new product information (aka ‘recalls’) arise.
