Extended rear-facing mommies: Why did you choose to keep baby rear-facing?

My daughter is 14 months, about 25lbs and still rear-facing.
My only reason for keeping her rear-facing is because of the safety issue.
Did you have other reasons to keep baby rear-facing after a year old, besides the safety issue?
Also, how old was your child when you turned them forward-facing?
mom 2B again – Those would be called convertible car seats. You can get those almost everywhere that sells baby stuff.

Elyse hasn’t hit the mark yet but we will definitely keep her rear facing as long as possible. Why? Because the words "internal decapitation" scares the crap out of me. Don’t listen to the first answerer – your baby is much safer rear facing. As far as when to turn her around – I’m not sure – maybe the other mommies will have an answer on that one…
If your child is too large for rear facing seats then that is more dangerous than turning them around.
I kept my daughter rear facing until she was 14 months old and weighed 30lbs. I did it partly because I did not have a car seat that was forward facing. With my baby due in Feb. I am going to keep him/her rear facing as ling as possible for safety reasons. Does anyone know where you can but car seats that are rear facing for an extended time?

Alll four of mine were out of a rear facing car seat at the proper height and weight limit. which is the important part. State guidelines are put into place so that your child can be as safe as possible. It’s pretty simple look at your laws ans FOLLOW THEM! My 9 yr old is teeny tiny so she is still in a booster because it is safe and i don’t care as long as she is safe.
Just safety.
I’m sure my son would love to be front facing.
Actually we have to turn his seat his head is too close to the top of the shell (within 1"). However we are in the middle of buying a new car (well by new I mean 10 years old *lol*) so there’s not must point in installing an anchor (for the tether) if we are only going to use it for a couple of weeks. My son is 2.5 years
My god mom kept my god brother in his rear facing car seat until he was about 14 months. For one, they didn’t have a car at the time. Two, he was way too short for the front facing one. He is still REALLY short. He weighed like 20 pounds when they first got him the front facing one. Now he’s 27 pounds. He’s 2 now…He’s only 34 inches now. And the rear facing one was in my mom’s car because we forgot to give it to them before we went on a mini vacation. They wanted to go to their friend’s house in another town and their friend’s sister was going to drive them. So they went to Wal-Mart and bought a front facing with it. I don’t think safety was an issue. It was his weight and his height.
