first time mom to be…need advice! ?
ok my mother in law bought us a stroller travel system at a yard sale it seems to be in good condition but i just learned that it’s not safe to use a car seat that is more than 5 years old. well i was looking at the model number and looked it up on the evenflo website to see if it was still good and to make sure there was no recalls well i put in the model number in correctly and it said that either i put in the number wrong or they no longer have that specific product.
now does that mean the car seat is bad?
i’m a first time mom so if anyone could please help it would be much appreciated.
thank you!
and it was made in ’02 but i need to know if they don’t hold that product anymore if that means it’s not good or safe?

I think it depends on when they STOPPED making the product. If it was a reputable product, they would have made it for several years before discontinuing that model. I would call the service line that should be on the car seat itself and ask a real person about this first. Don’t tell them how you received the travel system, just ask them if it’s something you can trust. Also, make absolutely certain there were no recalls about that particular model. Sorry I can’t be more help.
after 5 year a car seat is not good
call the company.
no that doesnt mean its bad,, that just means that design probably wasnt to popular so they stopped making it,,or with and 02 model, its just like a car, new models are made every yr not because it was bad but because each yr everyone wants something cooler,, you know that looks different, good luck as long as theres no recalls ur alright
The reason they say it is not safe is because you dont know the history/background of it, there could be something wrong with it, never use a second hand one.
Tell your mother in law, you are grateful for the stroller, but the seat cannot be used in a car as it is second hand, she should understand.
Fine then, give me thumbs down, but I know what im talking about, unlike you the person who gave me the thumbs down, look it up on google, and you will see why you are not meant to use second hand car seats.
For goodness sake.
Whatever.
no it doesn’t mean its bad it just means its an older model. with so many new ones every year they cant keep all the stuff on every stroller they make so the keep up to date the more newer ones. if its in good shape and it looks good use it. The only thing I problem would use if you cant get info on it a car seat. I would want that to be new unless it was one i had from one of my other kids. that way i know what was going on with it. but as for stroller and stuff like that you should be fine. but rule of thumb is if your uncomfortable then don’t use it get a new one. good luck and hope this helps.
hello i don’t really know about the car seats but don’t you think if its your first child that your mother in law should buy you a new car seat cos if I was to had a new grandchild to be born i would buy it a new carseat but i dont now the circumstanceses
It means that they updated the model so much that the older models do not sell- so they discontinued it. There would be a recall on the system if if was faulty. But it was made in 02- I would thank your mother in law and tell her that car seats for infants should be up to 4 yr old or brand new to be in compliance with the safety standards for car safety. They will understand- this is their grand baby- a precious gift from God. If they really want you to use it- let them have it. That way if the baby ever needs to be picked up for an emergency or a weekend away(you will appreciate not having to transfer car seats from one vehicle to another all the time)- they have a car seat/ with a stroller.
Ask your doctor’s office if they have the number to the person in charge of car seats at the hospital you plan to deliver at. That person will be able to tell you if this carseat was recalled and if it is still good.
