If it was a reputable product, they would have made it for several years before discontinuing that model. I would call the service line that should be on the car seat itself and ask a real person about this first. Don't tell them how you received the travel system, just ask them if it's something you can trust. Also, make absolutely certain there were no recalls about that particular model. The only thing I problem would use if you cant get info on it a car seat. They will understand- this is their grand baby- a precious gift from God. If they really want you to use it- let them have it. That way if the baby ever needs to be picked up for an emergency or a weekend away(you will appreciate not having to transfer car seats from one vehicle to another all the time)- they have a car seat/ with a stroller.
