How much TV do you let your toddler watch each day? And, what do you allow your toddler to watch?
How much TV do you let your toddler watch a day? What shows do you let them watch? Also, how old is your toddler (or, your children)?
Thanks!

My daughter is only 7 weeks so she doesn’t really watch TV. But there is a Baby Einstein: Praise Baby & Smiles video that I play every night before she goes to sleep after her bath. It really calms her down because they are all beautiful songs about the lord. I am not a religious person but its an awesome video and I think its great and she loves it.
Edit: But the little 2 year old that I babysit Monday to Friday from 8am to 4pm is allowed to watch 2 or 3 shows a day. Only 2 while I am there. She watches a show called Word World when she wakes up in the morning because she is not a morning person and it wakes her up and makes her happy. It is a very educational show. It teaches kids to learn to spell and its a really good show. Then Around 1:15 she watches the last 15 minutes of Caillou before her nap at 1:30.
None. Toddlers shouldn’t be engaging in passive activity. Letting them watch TV is just a lazy way of keeping them busy.
My 2 year old watches about 2 hours of tv a day, and they are mostly Disney movies, or Disney shows.
And maybe I should clarify. I leave her tv on for 2 hours a day. Does she watch it that entire time? No, she’s usually playing.
I have two on opposite ends….my 6 year old is a would-be TV addict. She’d watch it 24 hours a day if you let her. But we have a rule that on school days it’s one show (30 mins) and that’s it. Between homework and practices, there’s no time to waste!Weekends she gets a little more time, but we’re usually running around so much she doesn’t watch it too long anyway
My almost 3 year old doesn’t really like TV. I’ll put a show on for her in the morning if I have to work and she’s not going to preschool and she’ll watch maybe 10 mins then run along to play. She just doesn’t have much interest in it.
My "toddler" (14 months) only watches TV when her big sister is watching it and she happens to be playing around in the same room. Maybe an hour a week? She really likes music shows, like the Wiggles.
My 3 and a half year old watches about half an hour a day most days. Some days she watches none. She watches her videos – the Wiggles, Care Bears, Barney, Franklin sometimes, Mickey’s Clubhouse. Sometimes she watches the Backyardigans on Treehouse.
We don’t limit tv time. But often turn off the tv because they are not watching it.
My kids have always kept busy while the tv is on. They rarely sit and stare. They are either coloring, drawing or something else when the tv is on.
My kids use to watch Nick Jr. & Playhouse disney.
My kids are 14, 10 & almost 9.
We have TIVO so our kids were only allowed certain shows.
I’m a stay at home mom with a 16 month old toddler & a 3 week old baby. We don’t get out much anymore, so lately I’ve been playing music videos (country, we both like it) on the tv. Thats all my toddler watches & we watch maybe an hour total. We go in & out of the tv room so we are not sitting down watching it for an hour straight. I also let her listen to the radio. She loves music.
She also likes to watch clifford the big red dog. We don’t actually let her sit down & watch a whole show. She is very fascinated by it so I’ll let her watch it while I prepare something for her to eat or if things get hectic with our 3 week old it buys me a minute to take care of the baby for a minute. I’m not a big fan of TV or letting kids watch too much tv, so here & there is okay in my opinion.
my 6 year old twins watch as much as the want as long as they do good in school and home work is done and then a hour before bed they can watch anything pg and under
my 3year old watch all the time as much she wants and she watches only pbs kids in the day and pbs kids DVDS at nite a very good learning channel also nickjr and Disney playhouse good too
to be completely honest with you I live his Tv on, My son is VERY energetic, normally he is running, and jumping, and doing whatever else he can, to drive his mommy crazy LOL. we play dinosaurs all the time, and we color, really i think the TV is more like back round sound unless its MR.maker, thomas the train, or the wot wots.then well he watches them. all together its about an hour because i don’t think any of the shows is more then 20 minutes. We normally have Treehouse on. and he enjoys it when we are not playing, or he isn’t outside. i don’t think a bit of TV is harmful, It becomes harmful when a child sits their all day and does nothing but watch TV. By the way my son is 3,….I do have an 8 month old but she has no interest in TV.
My 2-yr-old watches PBS–Sesame Street, Clifford, Dinosaur Train, Barney, and occasionally a Baby Einstein video. We alternate obviously–he doesn’t watch all of those every day! But he does watch over an hour, maybe even close to 2 on some days. I need to cut that back, but we’ve fallen into a routine.
None. My 15 month old is not at all interested in TV. I’m a SAHM and the TV is on for few hours a day, mostly in the afternoon, when I watch the news, but she never ever pays attention. Every now and then I’d put on a kids show on PBS (we don’t have cable) but she’s not interested in that either. I hope she stays like that.
Maybe an hour or two, but that is interrupted by play. They are 2½ and 1½. My younger one isn’t as interested in tv as my older one. They watch PBS Kids – shows like Super Readers, Barney, Caillou, and Dinosaur Train.
My daughter is 2 1/2. We don’t own a television set, so she sees none.
At her grandmother’s house she’s seen the DVD/movie "Finding Nemo" and the old Walt Disney "Winnie The Pooh" animation (I think it’s called the Adventures of Winnie the Pooh.) She loved both of these, though Nemo gave her nightmares (the shark, the angler fish, etc.) She’s read the entire Winnie the Pooh series several times over so the movie really made it come alive for her.. she kept looking at the screen, pointing and saying, "look mom, Pooh’s talking!" "Eyeore’s talking mom!!" (While they own a television, they graciously don’t have it on when my daughter is there/awake.)
It’s crazy how much the movies left an impression on her. She talks about Nemo every day (and it’s been over six months since she saw the movie.) While I think an occasional movie will be fun for her, it’s freaky how these things bore into their psyche.
My 16 month old watches about an hour a day at my house. If she’s at grandma’s, the TV is on constantly. If I had it my way she wouldn’t watch it all but Daddy has a TV addiction! lol She basically only watches Mickey Mouse Clubhouse. She likes to get up and dance to the songs!
They say 2 hours a day and no more. But HONESTLY my TV is on 8-10 hours a day, we dont have cable so it is always movies (cartoons) or music. BUT my kids are lucky if they "really" sit down for even one hour to watch it.
They watch alot of Disney movies, I have a few baby einstein.
My son is 27 months. He watches a total of about 2 hours of TV a day, but never for more then 20 mins or so at a time.
He doesn’t like animated shows for some reason, so his faves are live action like The Wiggles, Sesame Street, Play School, Grandpa in my Pocket and Captain Mack.
His fave movie is Avatar
