How to get rust off metal & chrome, so I can repaint?
Hi, I bought, a cool 1935 all metal kitchen chair stepstool, almost all the paint is gone to the metal, how do i remove all of the rust from the chair and chrome legs, before I paint, and should I use Rustoleom Products, on it?

Got a great rust Best Buy for you. KBS Coatings sells a kit for jobs 12 sq. ft. or less for $16. It has all the products you’ll need to do the job right the first time. I’d wire brush to remove the loose flaky stuff, then follow w/ the 3 steps to clean, etch & seal. RustSeal is a moisture-cured urethane sealer unlike Rustoleum. It draws all moisture out of the metal when curing and dries rock hard. It also comes in 8 diff Colors. Automotive industries use this product, but it now comes in household sizes b/c rust is rampant everywhere!
dont laugh, soak it in coca cola. The acid will remove the rust and loosen any paint. Of course you need to wash it in hot warm water and use steel wool or rough sand paper to get it back to shine. Use a paint for metal products. Ask at the home improvement center and they will show you what you need.
Wire brush everything and apply Cora-seal it will react with the left over rust and form a primer coat on the metal, as far as the chrome touch up the rusted spots with Cora-seal and rough up the chrome with steal wool and paint, rustoleom is good
Haven’t tried Ann’s idea I’ve heard allot of things using Coke I’ll have to try it
Coke has phosphoric acid in it as does naval jelly. I never used Coke before. I will have to try it sometime. I have used naval jelly, though, & it works great. It is very cheap, not as cheap as Coke. But you can get a small jar for less than 5 dollars in Home Depot or Lowe’s.
