You only need to check for movement at the belt path, e.g. at the rear of the base. When you push *down* on the front of the base, it should not loosen at the back.
If in doubt, get the seat install checked out at CHP or AAA.
Go to the local police station or highway patrol. They will give you great instructions and help you install it!
I have a GRACO car seat and in my Camry, My Trailblazer & Silverado it all is easily pulled up from the back. I have never seen one that couldn’t be lifted up. I think they are all like that. At least I hope I am right otherwise me and everyone I know have been using it wrong!
I have an Avalanche and that d*mn car seat base refuses to stay in place against the leather. I finally said screw it and I just buckle it in using the "hooks" on the infant carrier. I feel I can tighten the seat belt better by not using the base. If you are determined to use the base try taking your car seat and car to the local police or fire station and see if they can install it properly for you, I know in my county they do offer this "service".
visit the local fire station or ambulance service for installation advice -these folks are the pros.
