We used the infant carrier until the limit for James and LJ. When we had Sean, we used the infant carrier for about 2 months until finally I got tired of carrying the damn thing. So we got him a convertible car seat. I liked it much better then the infant carriers. So being that you already have them, I’d probably use it for a couple months and then just switch to the regular one. It is good for when they are a newborn and you don’t want to wake them.
Most people use the carrier, especially when the infant is asleep which often happens after rides in the car. Regular seats are very heavy and bulky compared to carriers. Carriers just give an added convenience.
We just use the car seat. We go out to eat and just set it in the booth. When he falls asleep in the car on the way home, we let him finish his nap in the house in the car seat then take him out. We now have two kids and have never bought a separate infant carrier. Hope this helps.
Good heavens, no. Toting infants around in hard plastic cases rather than in a parents’ arms represents a sort of pathology, not good parenting.
I always feel bad for babies left two feet away from the table in their Graco plasticrap. You can eat a meal with a little baby on you in a sling no problem, and an older baby has a grand time being passed from lap to lap.
Sleepy babies go right back to sleep when popped in a sling, too; don’t worry about the nap thing.

that’s pretty much all I needed it for. in the grocery store i used a sling or something becausee he would just cry n the carrier nad i’d have to hold him and push the cart anyway.
oin restraunts my son always ended up needing to nurse so he was on my lap or i would get a booth and lay a blanket down and he napped there
I have an infant carrier for my 3 month old son, and that is what I always use. My son hates being left alone in his car seat, and honestly, I prefer to hold him anyways.
