Is it okay to use a car seat when the baby weighs less then the minimum weight?

Our newborn daughter is healthy but she’s small,4.8 pounds. The car seat we bought has a minimum weight limit of 5.5 pounds. Will it still be okay to use or do I have to buy another one?

Yeah it should be fine hun but I would ask your midwife’s advice anyway and see what she thinks, or the health visitor. I would imagine its just a precaution because because ther backs might not be totally supported, if she looks comfortable and everything then it should be fine. I doubt they even make car seats much smaller than mim.5.5lbs unfortunately. Plus give it a week or two and she’ll weigh near enough that anyway

hi my daughter was 2lbs 12 oz born and only 4lbs wen i brought her home. we got an insert from Argos that went round her like a snug to keep her upright. you can get them online if you look for early baby websites.
Normally the answer would be no, but I’m pretty sure you’ll be okay- especially for the ride home. She will gain the weight quickly. You should check with your local fire station, but I don’t even think they make preemie car-seats.
