Is it safe to travel to Cancun with my 4month old baby?

I’m going to Cancun next week for my 30th B-day with my husband and our 4 month old daughter and some friends. People are telling me it’s not safe there. Should I be concerned about taking my baby? I’m getting kinda nervous.
My mother in-law is also going with us to help watch my baby when we are out.

I’ve been there twice and it is safe for you to take your baby. I’ve seen plenty of families with their small children vacationing there. If you formula feed I would take bottled water to feed her (just so you don’t have to spend more money on bottled water there). Cancun is a tourist/vacationers type place. We caught the bus everywhere we wanted to go. I love the take grandma on vacation too, to help watch the baby when you want to go out - boy does it help.
The only thing that will be in danger is your sanity otherwise I would not worry. Cancun is a major tourist area and quite secure except for the occasional hurricane.
Don’t be nervous. You’ll be perfectly fine with your baby in Cancun.
The people who run into problems in Cancun are the ones who are in the drug and party scene, and those who don’t practice typical street-smarts: Keep your money and ID in your front pockets, don’t go out alone at night, and don’t accept rides from cabs that don’t look like cabs (your hotel can arrange a cab for you, if you’re worried about it).
Most of the violence and crime in Mexico happen along some parts of the west coast, the boarder of the US by big cities, and in and around the area of Mexico City.
Cancun and the Yucatan relies very heavily on their tourist industry, and therefore are harder on the riff-raff. There is a large police and Federales presence in that area. The area you’re going to is extremely tourist friendly and accomidating.
PS - If you want a more quiet atmosphere, try Tulum which is about 2 hours south by car or bus. Long stretches of quiet beaches, plenty of great places to eat, Mayan ruins nearby and very safe. (Many hotels have guards and offer great rates.)
Enjoy!
It’s as safe as any major vacation destination in the US, but I wouldn’t travel long distance with a 4 month old ANYwhere, so good luck with that!
It is perfectly safe in Cancun. lots of people are alarmists and make seeping statements with absolutely o personal knowledge of the subject. Exactly WHAT do they think is unsafe? The gang violence you hear about is in border towns, not Cancun, and there is NO swine flu in Cancun. Taking care of the baby will limit your activities, but, if you are prepared for that, ok. If it is possible to leave the baby with family members, you would not be limited in your activities…so consider that if possible.
Its safe, as long as you dont feed him with tequila… lol
Nothing to worry, bring special baby sunscreen.
umm well, yeah?
it’s safe…
if in Cancun are babies that SURVIVE, why not yours?
forget about swine flu, mexico is making a great job with that shit
