It is your problem if you are using an expired car seat and the child is injured in a crash or whatever. Just refuse to transport the child until a safe way to do so has been provided. Perhaps mention that Walmart sells an acceptable car seat for under $50. They should care enough about their childs safety, if they cant afford one there are programs designed to help and the ones at walmart are cheap and work fine. My personal opinion as a mother i would want my son in the safest i could find. i know where i live and i think its anywhere my local fire station will provide a carseat up to safety standards and decent ones at no cost. so most def i would tell there parents they need to provide one, also tell them that you dont feel comfortable taking their child anywhere in something you dont feel safe also something that is obviously fallen apart! not to mention they should care anyways after all its thier child! totally the parents responsibility.
