Need safety info for rear-facing third seat in station wagon?

Can anybody point me to documentation on safety of putting children in the rear-facing third seat of a station-wagon. Opinions are welcome, but what I really is hard info from a known and reliable source.

I don’t know any hard facts or case study but I wouldn’t be caught dead sitting in third row seat mainly cuz:
1.seat too close to bumper
2.no cushion area for crash.
3.sitting beyond or on top of axle …pass safely area.
4. i get dizzy.
