Next step up for my infant's carseat?
Hello all I am a new mom and I have a 7 month old. I was just wondering I have the travel system Graco infant carseat for now and it is good up until 22 pounds. My daughter now weighs 17 1/2 pounds so sometime in the near future I am going to need to get the next step up. The thing is I have no clue what I am supposed to look for or what its called or anything….so help? I usually buy things from ebay or craigslist because my husband is in the marine corps. and i am a stay at home mom and money needs to stretch for the three of us. Thanks so much for everyones answers!

I just went thru that too – I had to go from the back-facing infant seat to a carseat. I ended up buying the Recaro seat – it is awesome. There are a lot of good ones that are a little less expensive, but the one I bought goes up to like 60 lbs. I bought it online at JC Penney – I went to all the stores and looked at them before I bought it. Make sure that you get one that will adapt to your car. I happen to have a new car and it (the car) has all the necessary latches – check your car first. Good Luck!
The name of the next step up is called a convertible carseat. Those carseats go up to 40 pounds or even more.
There are all kinds on the market. You need to take into consideration the size of your car. If you have a smaller car, you need a car seat that will work in it. It will still need to be facing backwards for quite a while. It’s hard to fit the large car seats when they are facing backwards. You may want to "test drive" a few and see which ones fit in your car. Then you can search ebay for that kind.
We have a mini van and the car seat I bought the first time had to be returned because our VAN wasn’t big enough for the seat to face backwards in.
You need to get a convertible car seat that can face backwards and then when they turn 12 months and at least 20lbs you can switch to forward facing.
next is a convertible car seat. i have a rear/forward facing one that holds up to 40 lbs. i have the evenflo triumph advanced.

This is the seat I got for my son when he outgrew his Graco carrier seat. It got great review for comfort and saftey and was easy to install. It also goes up to 50lbs which is higher than most seats. I mostly got it for the good reviews and so far my baby seems very comfortable. It also reclines back and not all seats do that.
You should get the convertible carseat, it’s the best bet.
However, it’s not safe to buy a carseat unless it’s brand new, because you don’t know the history behind it. If your carseat has ever been in a car accident, it is considered unsafe and no longer under any warranty if it fails.
Just something to think about!
