parents help with car seats please?
I am pregnant with our 6th child a little boy and my husband and I plan on getting the baby a car seat for Christmas but we have been talking about weather we should just buy a convertible seat or stick with an infant seat that you can take in and out of the car.
These are the three car seats that we have really looked at and just wondered if any other parents have any input. Did you just buy a convertible seat and use a sling for your baby when they were little?

If anyone else has a car seat they recommend please give the link. Which car seat would you buy a infant seat or a convertible seat? thanks
**Kel- neither of your links worked. Can you repost them please.

I would be LOST without my infant seat. I have a Graco Snugride as well (the #2 one) I can get her buckled in and ready to go in the warm house and take her seat and all to the car. I can clip the seat to shopping carts, her stroller, my sit and stand stroller (when I have both kids), the holders at the restaurant. I never have to worry about where to lay her. I could not imagine what I would do with her if I had to take just her out of the car. She is 6 weeks old today and I am so grateful for the infant carrier. WAY worth the extra expense!!
I had a rear facing infant car seat. At first we used the base, but we found that his head always slumped over. So we started just buckling the actual car seat into the car. And I tell yah, my son is only 3 months, but I can barley lift him out. I wish I had got a convertible seat, I found some reasonable ones at Babies R us, they are infant seats, and they adjust to the next car seat up.
I loved my infant seat because it was a temporary sleeping area for my baby when we were out visiting or having dinner at a restaurant. The graco infant seat should be good for about 4-5 months. After that we bought our son a 3 in 1 car seat which is the reverse carseat, forward facing child seat and a booster seat. Here are a couple links that have really good 3 in 1 carseat
1) http://products.howstuffworks.com/safety… We have this one
2) http://www.toysrus.ca/product/index.jsp?… friend of mine has this one
Both are awesome and run about $120-$190
I had a convertable for my son that we used as a rear facing for a while. I liked it but it didn’t seem very stable the instructions even said to use a rolled up towel under it to stablize it. I also didn’t like having to take him in and out of the car when he was an itty bitty and would be sleeping. I baught another infant carseat for this baby don’t plan on getting a forward facing one until she is older.
We used an infant carrier style one, but really it was too heavy to haul around after she was a month old. I think they say those things weigh 8-10 pounds, and add your baby’s weight to that, plus bulk factor, and it isn’t something you’ll be carrying very far. We used a sling (Hotsling) and I loved it. It was so easy and lightweight and kept my hands free. I never did the grocery cart balancing the carrier thing, but just used the sling instead. The only thing was that it was kinda nice to carry her in in the car seat when she fell asleep in the car. It would have woken her up to have to take her out of the straps and everything. Plus, those infant carrier seats are HUGE and the convertable ones require less space. I drive a larger sedan and the back seat barely accomodated an infant seat. I had to push my front seat up further than I would have liked. So, its a toss-up.
You want one that can be taken out of the car with the child in it. This way, if the child falls asleep whilst in the car, you do not have to disturb him each time you have to get out. When our daughter had trouble sleeping, a car trip did the trick which would have been pointless if we had to wake her when we got home.
Number 2 is the better one but look at http://www.toysrus.com/search/index.jsp?kwCatId=&kw=travel%20systems&origkw=travel%20systems&f=Taxonomy/TRUS/2255957&sr=1
The travel systems are great. The car-seat clicks into the travel system allowing you to park and go and do your shopping without having to carry the car-seat.
I had a convertible carseat that snpped right into the stroller. And I had a separate one for when she got to big for the carrier one. This one goes up to 50 lbs i think..but you can buy one that goes up to 85 lbs or so. If it were me…i would stick with the carseat with that snaps into the stoller. and then switch later.
