I love love love my britax carseat. Yes, they can be rear facing longer than many other carseats. I got the Britax Roundabout, which is sort of bottom of the line as far as Britax goes. I didn’t go for the Boulevard because they are soo big, and the Marathon isn’t much different than the Roundabout…just $30.00 more, and doesn’t fit all that well in small vehicles (I had an accord when I bought it) Here’s a link to ours: http://www.amazon.com/Britax-Roundabout-Convertible-Seat-Cowmooflage/dp/B000WJI5V0/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=baby-products&qid=1249938247&sr=1-1
The best feature of the car seat is the LATCH system. The latches are super easy. There’s a button that you compress to release them, and to hook them on, you just slide it over the latch in your car, and it hooks itself. Couldn’t be easier to take the car seat in and out.
The worst feature…the price I guess. They are a little pricey. Also, there’s velcro along the side on the seat so that you can get the straps out of the way to get your child in, but I find them a bit of a pain. Not a big deal at all….was just looking for something to complain about!
Before buying a car seat, make sure it is going to fit well in your vehicle! We made that mistake and bought an Evenflo that didn’t work…the passenger seat had to be all the way forward for it to be rear facing. Check on this site: http://www.carseatdata.org/
I just bought one yesterday
we got the boulevard and it’s AMAZING. it’s comfortable and soft and can be rear facing up to 35 lbs and forward facing to 65 lbs. it’s got extra cushion too around the head and around the waist — we decided on the boulevard instead of the marathon because of the extra padding because my son is still a bit small (less than 20lbs — he is close to outgrowing his infant seat height-wise though). the marathon is about 50$ cheaper also but it’s still comfy and awesome safety-wise. I don’t think they can face rear any longer than other car seats (I know there is a graco myride 65 that can RF up to 45 lbs), but britax has the best safety ratings.
if there’s a buy buy baby near you, they take bed, bath, and beyond coupons. we had one for 20% off and the boulevard ended up being a bit cheaper than the marathon would have been.
I have the nautilus that has the 5 point harness up to 60 pounds. It is very sturdy and the best carseat we’ve owned. Before that I believe we had an eddie bauer-something. We used graco for the newborn backward facing. You can check the safety features for all different brands online. I’m not sure about the rear facing part. I think if your child reaches a certain height then you have to turn their seat around no matter what brand it is. The childs legs would just get too long!
