When can baby sit in the shopping cart?

How old was your baby when he/she began to sit in the shopping cart seat? I just got my daughter a new car seat that stays in the car b/c she’s too big for her infant car seat. She’s only 4 months old (and weighs almost 19 pounds) so she can’t sit unassisted yet. I don’t mind doing the baby carrier thing, but in a few weeks she’s going to be way too big for that. She sits fairly straight up but not for too long.

When did you kids start sitting in the shopping cart?

Since we’re not going to use a baby carrier I thought it’d be easier when I have to take them both to the store or do stuf around the house. (I have a toddler that’ll be 2 when this one comes.) Some of the ones I’ve seen don’t have reviews anywhere.

Today is the first day that I am picking up the kids from day care without using a baby carrier for the little one and I am not sure how to go about it. My son is 2.5 years old and my daughter is 10 months. What is the best way to get them both into the car and strapped in, without leaving one unattended, or giving the toddler the chance to run away?
This is not a control thing, 2 year olds can bolt at any time, even if you tell them not to. That’s how they are.

What do I need for a baby?

okay, I may or may not be pregnant. Either way, that’s okay. I know I can get through it and be alright. But if I am, I’d like to be prepared so, so far I’ve composed a list of all the things I’d most likely need (with costs and everything) can anyone tell me if I’m missing anything?

Crib (with crib mattress, crib sheets, and crib mattress pad)
Stroller (which comes with a car carrier)
Diaper bag
High chair
Changing table
Changing pad
Playpen
Blankets
Pacifiers
Bibs
Baby bath tub
baby carrier
baby swing
safety gate
Bottles
baby monitor
onsies
pajamas
baby shoes
baby clothes
baby socks
baby soap/shampoo

I didn’t calculate food or formula (or the big one, DIAPERS) but other than those am I missing anything I need to calculate into my possible budget.

I’m only 17, but I already graduated high school and I’m in college right now, my boyfriend also lives 13 hours away (he would move up here and we plan on getting married if I am, we were already engaged but it’d be for a sooner date, by a year). Any advice, tips, if I am, how should my boyfriend and I tell my parents? Also, so far with everything but the food, diapers, and formula I’m looking at spending ,600 and I have 0 already and a job, so does anyone have anything to add my list? Or tips like should I get another job (I only work 14 hours a week, and two days a week.)

I know I sound like I’m in a heap of mess and should abort it or set it up for adoption but I can’t deal with the conciousness of doing either since it’d be my fault he/she is born. I just need to be prepared for it and get tested and see my cardiologist (since I have a pacemaker) which adds into the mess of the situation but I’m not too stressed as I am trying to be prepared. So I’m sorry for rambling, but am I missing anything on my list?

Thanks.

Baby wraps/slings/carriers?

I really want some form of baby carrier. I like the idea better than having to manouver bulky strollers or carriers. But I don’t know which type to get. Any suggestions? I’ve heard good things about the Moby wrap and the maya wrap. I’ve been warned to stay away from the baby bjorn but I still kind of like it. I want something comfortable and nondescript, nothing too brightly colored or patterned, nothing that screams neo-hippie earth goddess.

How many of you use a baby sling or baby carrier and can you use these from birth. I am looking to buy and wondering if anyone can recommend any particular brand or style.

Thanks

I am curious what your favorite gift was and most used gift that you received from your baby shower? My favorite gift was probably the baby carrier and my most used would have to be between a travel system stroller and baby swing. I am trying to figure out a gift to get my cousin whose pregnant. I already know that her parents are getting a lot of gifts she will need for the baby. I also am wondering what smaller gifts you liked receiving?

Things to do with a 14 month old baby in Hawaii?

We’re traveling to Hawaii in April with our baby girl who will be 14 months. We’re going to all the islands and I don’t know what activities we’ll really be able to do while there. We live in Miami so the beach isn’t the main attraction for us. I purchased a baby carrier/backpack and an all terrain stroller to get around. Is there any hiking to do with a tough stroller? Carrying the baby for a month on our backs will not be easy. Any suggestions?

I just ask cos I asked a question about the baby bjorn and one reply said they were bad for the spine and reccommended making my own baby carrier? Im just not sure how a shop bought brand carrier , which has been researched by professionals be better for my baby than one i made myself? the baby bjorn says it is paedotrician reccommended…what are your views? I personally wouldnt feel confident carrying my baby in a sling I had made for fear I had done it incorrectly…

My new niece(in-law) is having a baby shower very soon.
It is to be thrown by a family member who does not know her well, since she’s new to the family, and she has decided against registering for any gifts. I’m only 23, myself, none of my friends have babies, so I just do not know what I am doing.

I’m going in on a gift with my mother, BUT she is having an operation and going to be laid up during our shopping time.
Basically I know she’s covered with crib, bedding, changing table, traveling changing table, diaper bag, car seat, front/back baby carrier, bassinet, high chair, stroller, decorations, a baby book, and every other general "big-buy" for a baby gift. My mother and I were thinking of a "big buy" gift, but short of the obnoxious (it’s how we feel and we’d rather not do it) giant-load of diapers, wipes, creams, bottles, and pacifiers, we are at a loss.

Since I am in charge of the gift buying I am hoping the ages of every mother I know makes them out of touch with what new mothers WANT/need.

Is there anything people don’t usually think of that is necessary, or are we going with the basket of clothes and bulk items?
