How old does a child have to be until they are no longer required to use a booster seat or child seat? Is it by weight or age or both?
Our daughter is 23 months and is fighting sitting in her high chair. She still isn’t very good about not throwing food and making messes at times and she is still a little small, so we would prefer her to stay in a high chair, but she seems to really want to be at the table. Just curious when you let your child sit in a booster seat.
My son is 4 years old and small for his age (about 34 lbs), and he’s always been in a car seat with a five point harness. We have a Britax Marathon and Sunshine Kids Radian. Both seats are solid and heavy with the latch system to attach them to my car. He recently has been complaining that the strap between his legs in the Britax hurts his "wee wee". I’ve tried loosening the straps a bit, but he still complains. I know he’s at the age where the booster seat is an option, but I’m hesitant to allow him to ride in one for safety reasons. I’m afraid the seatbelt won’t sit properly against his waist, cut into his neck, and allow his head to slump when he falls asleep (which he does often on car rides). Are there any seats that have a more suitable five point harness that will fit an older child, or any very safe booster seats that you can recommend? I was hoping they still make booster seats with the latch system to hold the seat in place so it doesn’t slide around in the car when not in use.
my cousin just turned six and is STILL in the five point harness seat because he refuses to cooperate with the seat belt models. they have tried to give him the big kid booster seat (really light and portable and you just put the seat belt over them) but he will not leave the seat belt alone. he either unbuckles it or puts the shoulder strap behind his back!
he is getting rather tall (almost four feet now). and all of his younger cousins seem to be in booster seat by four and they stay in them just fine. the only way to keep him in a car seat is to get the baby style straps. he cannot seem to figure out how to work those! his bus driver even has to strap him down with a five point harness on the bus because he refuses to stay sitting. he prefers to stand in the seat, kneel in the seat, crawl around the floorboard.. you get the idea.
when were your kids ready to get into a big kid seat and will this kid ever be old enough for the big kid models?
the one he has now fits kids up to 90 pounds. he is only fifity pounds so he fits it fine.
its called a high back booster seat for older kids. it fits up to almost a hundred pounds. it is heavy and very large but it is the only way he will stay in the seat.
and the seat belts on the bus are designed to fit even teens if adjusted right so those should last awhile.

its similar to this one but goes up to 85 pounds. the big kid booster was for 35 to 100 pounds but he would not use it right!
hes hyperactive. and unfortunately has an issue with listening at times. his teacher also has problems getting him to stay in one place in class. he gets in trouble all the time for getting up when he is not supposed to. no matter what you do!
We are expecting baby in March and there is no way I can fit 3 car seats in my mazda 6. I was able to do 2 boosters and an infant seat but it was very very tight and I didnt feel good about the security. We will need to fit a newborn, 18month old and a 5 year old in the car. So a booster seat, toddler front facing seat and a infant car seat. Is there a car that will fit these in one row comfortably or do we need to get something with a third row? And if so what would be a good choice. I do not want a minivan or anything big like that.
My 3 year old is already 40 inches in height but not mature enough for the seat belt booster seat.
My daughter is a year old and I need to get her a new high chair/booster seat. But there are so many to choose from!! I want one that can go with me between houses (I babysit) and that is not too expensive, does not take up too much room but is also comfortable for baby. I want the booster seat type, not the high chair with legs. Which one do you personally recommend??
I just saw a comercial saying that all children under 4 foot 9 should sit in a booster seat and I read somewhere that shes 4 foot 9 or 10, and i just find this funny. does that mean she should sit in a booster seat?
The box says it is for 30+ lbs
36+ inches
ages 3 and up…
WELL….my son already meets the height and weight requirements, but will not be turning 3 until May which works out as our next baby is due in June. I went ahead and bought this carseat as it was on sale and put it up…but how well does it work for your little ones? Is only the seatbelt really enough support for them ..it just seems so unsafe compared to the 5 point harness…..tell me about your experiences and thoughts?
it is not a booster seat only it has the back portion to ..it just utilizes a seatbelt instead of the 5 pt harness and the back goes up higher than his stage 2 carseat. Where i am at there are 4 stages: infant, stage 2 5 pt harness, stage 3 big boy seatbelt seat, stage 4 booster alone.
K–no i do not have my 2 yr old in a booster—i have him in 5 pt harness however it is getting really tight on him and i wouldnt put him in the other seat "big boy seat" not booster until he meets all requirements!
thanks everyone i actually just found one that has the 5 pt harness and its only 50 bucks so i think ill take this one back and get it but no i havent put him in either yet. thanks
My daughter is 13 months and finally ready for a forward facing car seat. I prefer a convertible one so she can use it as a booster seat. The car seat options are daunting and at this point they are all looking the same. What do you recommend?
My daughter just turned 4 in Feb she is 43 lbs I have her in the Britax Marathon seat up to 65 pound weight limit with the 5 point harness I have a few Questions
1 . Is she big enough to move to a booster seat with the lap belt ?
2 . Is it safer to keep her where she is because the actual 5 point harness is the safest restraint?
3. What are the laws in new york state ?
4 If you have a child around this age when did you move them to a booster? Which one ? If your 5 point harness seat went up to 65 lbs would you have kept them in it ?
And help would be great thanks
She is not trying to get out but I don’t know if it is needed anymore? and it can be a pain to get her and the other kids all in and out of the seats but if it is truly safer than of course it is worth the extra work
Ok my question is this. My son is almost 3 and is almost 34 lbs. I am getting ready to travel and am wondering when is it safe to take him from a car seat to a toddler booster seat? The car seat he has now is in my opioin is to smalle for him. Please help. I want to follow the law and make him safe and comfortable at the same time. thank you.
I currently have a booster seat, which I got used, but not a high chair. Do I need a high chair? What do all of you use?
My son is 27 months old, weighs 29.5lbs, and is approx. 35-36inches tall. Is he big enough for a booster seat yet, or should I keep him in his car seat for awhile longer?
Just wondering, because my nephew will be three years old in april, only weighs about 4 lbs more than my son and is approx. 5inches taller, and has been in a booster seat for about six weeks now.
