Suggestions for a convertible car seat?

I need a car seat for a six month girl who is out growing her infant car seat. I need a seat that is safe and can fit rear facing in the back a PT Cruiser. I’m looking at the Alpha Omega Elite and the Evenflo Triumph Advance. Britax or Sunshine is not an option because of the price so please don’t suggest it or make me feel guilty for not buying it. Does any one know of features I need to look for or have a suggestion for or against any seats out there? I’m totally confused. Thanks in advance for you help!
I’ve read that the Alpha doesn’t recline in rear facing mode with out taking up a lot of space and the Evenflo has an odd buckle shape that digs into babies legs. Are these things true?

Strollers for twins: Anyone can help?

I have not a clue where to start. I’ll be getting my twins these car seats ( http://www.britax.ca/car-seats/chaperone ) but have no idea what kind of stroller to get. I want something that looks nice, is safe, and works well. Any ideas?
Sorry for my horrible grammar. I can’t think I’m so excited.

Was in a minor accident with a Britax…?

The door closest to the car seat looks like it MIGHT be damaged, however the impact was slight and the car seat looks like it never came in contact with the door. We live in a Tort state, it SHOULD be entirely the other guy’s fault (he ran a red light and drove into my hubby driving home, no one else was in either car though.) Claim adjusters have a nasty habit of trying to wiggle out of car seat replacement (especially since this is a 0 car seat…) Should I insist on a replacement? Or is this a minor enough accident to not need one?

Britax has higher standards making it one of the only car seats you don’t replace after a minor accident. We meet every criteria for a minor accident EXCEPT that the door, while appearing not to be damaged, cannot open (so that indicates some level of damage.)

Im wondering, since it is discontinued..is it worth buying? If i were to buy a Britax I would only have a 1year warranty anyway. The one i am looking at was manufactured Aug. 2007.

Thanks
What does it mean by the seat will expire?…does it begin to fall apart or what??? Thanks.

This is long, bear with me.

My sister watches my nieces 3 children, ages about 9, 7 and 5. Depending on the car they use, they sometimes use boosters and seats but since the 5 year old is pretty big they tend to think they’re not necessary anymore. Okay, so my sister is having a baby and she’s having a lot of trouble and could end up having the baby any moment. When the baby is born we will be watching the kids, possibly for a week, possibly for up to a month or more. My mom and I like to go places, and my mini-van can easily fit everyone, but the car seat question comes up. Both because I don’t want my kids to get the wrong idea about car safety and because it’s safer (not to mention the law in our area says they have to be in a booster or seat until 8.)

So the problem. I KNOW they will not compensate or help me get a booster. They MAY provide us with a booster and seat while they’re here, but I’m not counting on it since I’m not seeing them in boosters very often anymore. My niece is having a divorce with the father right now, and I don’t know if he has the seats or if he’d be willing to let someone else use them. He also has a very aggressive nature towards seats and I don’t know if the seat would be safe anyway.

I DO have an old Britax that my daughter can’t ride backwards in because of the crotch belt being too short for her and having to be in the forward facing position. One of them should fit in that one (it goes up to 63lbs) and then I don’t have anyone using the unsafe lap-belt in the back. I’m pretty sure there are head-rests on the back bench so a basic no-back booster is an option and more affordable.

So the Evenflo Big Kid AMP got the ‘best bet’ for a booster seat a couple of years ago by the IIHS and is on sale for about . I’ve never been pulled over but if I was with these kids then I could be cited for breaking the law since anyone under 8 must be in a booster or carseat depending on age now (and you have to be 4+ for a booster, but they all are.) However, it’s not like I’m planning on taking them a million places either, just to things like SAMS or COSTCO, the library or a playground, now and then, and we could just plan that around the days we don’t have them. Except that we don’t always KNOW the days we won’t have them. And I could just leave my mom home with them, but she gets awfully tired watching them alone and I know everyone would like to get out now and then. My mom may be willing to pay for the booster herself since I have a seat for one of them and that’s basically all we’d need but if she doesn’t… that’s about 1/2 our food budget for a week (but I would feel horrible if one of them was injured and a citation would cost more anyway. But yes, I feed my family of 4 on a week so this isn’t a small purchase.)

So my question is, what would you do? There may be some arguing as well from kids who are used to not using any seats and me being a hard Aunty saying they don’t have a choice. It could also cause some irritation from parents who don’t agree with me (or the law) about boosters and such. (Let’s face it, I’m a nutcase to them anyway since both my kids are rear-facing until 4 or 30lbs, and my daughter is 3 1/2 and is still rear-facing currently so I’m not joking.) Their kids complaining that I make them ride in a booster and when they asked why I explained the safety aspect or the legal aspect would basically be saying their parents are wrong.

Would you just plan on leaving them home? Or would you just get the stupid booster?
Aggressive towards seats = tossing them aside, refusing to use them, etc. I’m sure he’s yelled at them. :P

As far as worrying about what folks think, yes I do. They don’t tend to leave kids over here because my parents are elderly, and my mom would like them over more often, but my dad has made everyone feel guilty for leaving their kids over at all so it sort of hurts her that she doesn’t get to see them as often.

How much time would I have saved by not asking the question? About 5 minutes. When you grow up, take a typing class.

which infant car seat is ideal?

ok ive been looking at carseats online everyday, tonight im going to babyearth, so i can actually touch them. ive looked at all the major brands and narrowed it down to combi(shuttle or coccoro), maxi-cosi, chicco keyfit30 or graco sungride. ive looked at britax but i dont want to spend 250 dollars for something thats going to last me for less than a year. i know most of the seats i named prob wont last me up to a year, but they are much cheaper. ive read that maxi-cosi is a small seat and most kids grow out of it at 6 months. my number one choice is the keyfit30. however, im very interested in the coccoro. the only thing that concerns me is that there isnt a handle or sunshade. how do you hold this thing. plus it doesnt have a base, so everytime i want to take it in and out if the car i have to use the latch. but i do like that its both rear facing and forward facing, that way it will last longer.
of course im interested in safety not just how they look.
anyone have any ideas on what to get?

Need help choosing an infant car seat!!!?

We are getting the Britax B-Ready stroller, but I can’t decide between 2 infant car seats. The Peg Perego Primo Viaggio SIP 30/30 vs. the Britax Chaperone! I know Graco, and the Chicco have good car seats as well, but these are just the 2 we feel are going to be the safest and most comfortable for our baby! Please Give me your opinion on which of the 2 you have had an experience with or heard about!! Thank you!!

We have a Britax B Ready stroller seat with an extra double seat. The double seat has a weight limit of 35lbs. My son is 45lbs. Have you ever used a stroller seat despite the fact that your child exceeded the weight limit? Did anything happen? I know it’s not the smartest thing to do but I am just curious what others’ experiences are with this.

To replace child car seat?

We were recently hit by someone running a red light. The impact was on the driver’s side.
My son was in a Britax in the back seat behind the passenger seat.
No visible damage to our seat- and we do meet the guidelines for the NHTSA "minor" crash- for the most part. I was sore and hit my head on the window, but did not seek medical treatment.
On the other hand, the insurance adjuster from the other person’s insurance company said (after looking at my car) that this would be considered a "moderate" impact crash (versus minor)- I think it seemed to be a minor impact because thankfully the other driver (who was going approx. 30 and didn’t slow down at all) hit at one of the strongest parts on the side of the car. In our Britax manual, it states seats should be replaced after any moderate or severe crash. The website states their thoughts on seat replacement a little differently on the site.

- I would never buy a used one.
- I have a britax for my son… am preg again with my second and have to look for the best deal… suggestions are appreciated!
- ALSO if anyone knows of any deals for a twin phil and ted running stroller!!!! LOVE IT!

Convertible car seat help?

We are interested in moving our 5 month old son out of his infant car seat (which is part of a travel system) and into something more roomy and comfortable. I have heard Britax is one of the best brands out there, but which model is best? And what is the difference really between all of them? Also, my friend has one, I think the Boulevard model, and it seems really big! It’s super tall, and as of now our son will still be rear-facing, so then there’s no way we can turn around and peek over the top of the seat at him? Any other convertible car seats with a better shape/size? Thanks :]

Infant Car Seat Recommendation?

I need to find a new convertible car seat for under 0. Its needs to have good ratings of course. I would love to get a Britax, but they cost more than I can afford.

Any suggestions or recommendations?
