Britax Advocate–anyone have one?

My baby girl is currently 16 lbs 8 oz and 27 inches at 9 months old, so she is still well within the height/weight requirements of her infant seat. However, she is starting to fight, cry, and struggle every time I put her in her infant seat (or lay her down in the infant tub or changing table for that matter). A few friends told me that switching to the convertible seat will help because they can sit up (which is what she wants to do). I’m researching car seats, and it seems like the big kahuna on the market right now is the Britax Advocate. Does anyone have one? If so, what do you think? I drive a Toyota Corolla–do you think it would be too big? Is it really heavy to move between cars (my husband is deployed right now so I would have to move it myself if I choose to drive the other car). The price tag is steep, but I’m not basing my decision off of that because I saved money when I was pregnant for a convertible seat some day. I just want the best possible seat. Also, are the side cushion thingys on the Advocate effected by side curtain air bags on your car? Our Scion xB has side curtain air bags

my husband insists it’s fine, but i’m concerned..
we got our convertible car seat (a britax) so that it has no side to side movement, but it still moves front to back… mainly it can be lifted up at the head & pivots at the seatbelt toward the back of the seat…
we don’t have the latch system, it’s just held in by the seatbelt, and there’s nothing else in the car to attach it to (nothing on the floorboard like one option in the manual shows)
the manual says nothing about front to back movement…

i’m going to get it checked out, but i have to wait till our appt & i just want to know until then…

is this safe???
yeah, it can rock.
but it’s a convertible seat, not an infant seat.

(side note on not being able to leave without them checking the fit–the stupid hospital i delivered at required us to bring the seat for them to checked how the *baby* fit in it, and REFUSED to come out to help us check the fit in the car–and after taking it out to bring it up we couldn’t get it back in right!! we were there for an hour until some random lady helped us!)
yeah, i have a towel under it now (otherwise there’d be too much slack in the seatbelt due to the buckle placement & it had side to side movement) but it still rocks front to back. the seat in front of it is back all the way, but the issue is still that it can be lifted from the front edge of the seat, so the head of the car seat can be tilted toward the rear of the car…
it’s *tight* in there, it *pivots* at the seat belt…

(hard to explain i guess!)

the car seat has a tether to hold it down, but my car doesn’t have anything to attach it to… the manual treats the tether as an option…? but it’s not entirely clear…
our fire stations don’t check car seats anymore. we called them all & they don’t do it! one particular police station does it by appt only. it’s so frustrating!
without the towel, the buckle is too close to use the locking clip on the seat and has too much slack.

WITH the towel (in the "crack" of the regular seat), it raises the seat edge (also creating a better incline) so the belt has further to travel and the buckle stops short of the lockign clip–*eliminating* excess slack that allowed the car seat to move side to side.

My daughter is 12.5 months and only 20 lbs. Her infant car seat holds up to 22lbs. I plan on keeping her in the infant carrier for a few more weeks until she pushes closer to 22lbs. I need to buy a new convertible seat that still can be rear facing. Which one should I buy? What has the best safety rating? I have some gift certificates from her birthday to Babies R’ Us plus a 15% off coupon so I guess I have to buy it from there. Any suggestions for one from that store?

I am about to switch from infant to a convertible car seat. I’d like to buy only one convertible car seat (with detachable base, e.g. Britax Boulevard) and at least 3 bases (for myself, my wife’s car, and grandparents’ car)-just like I do with my current Graco Snugride. I was unable to find a base for convertible seat which can be sold separately, at least online. Is this solution possible at all? If yes, would appreciate if someone shares.

which car seat is better?

I have an eight month old and we are finally buying him a convertible seat. I am stuck between two seats; the Britax Marathon or the Britax Boulevard. I have read good things about both. The marathon is more expensive but I like how the boulevard has the added sides to it. What did you choose? Please tell me what you chose even if you didn’t get a britax seat. I want the safest seat for my baby boy!

parents help with car seats please?

I am pregnant with our 6th child a little boy and my husband and I plan on getting the baby a car seat for Christmas but we have been talking about weather we should just buy a convertible seat or stick with an infant seat that you can take in and out of the car.

These are the three car seats that we have really looked at and just wondered if any other parents have any input. Did you just buy a convertible seat and use a sling for your baby when they were little?

If anyone else has a car seat they recommend please give the link. Which car seat would you buy a infant seat or a convertible seat? thanks
**Kel- neither of your links worked. Can you repost them please.

the car seat my mom got me?

My mom got me a safety first car seat/stroller combo for Christmas because she thought it would be nice for me to be able to transport the baby from car to stroller while she was sleeping. The thing that the car seat is the one thing I was very particular about buying (my dad died in a car accident) because I am a stickler for car safety. I really wanted to pick it out myself, and I can’t return it because me mom already threw the box away. I know Safety First is an inexpensive brand which makes me think you probably get what you pay for. Does anybody know if this carseat is actually particularly safe. I really wanted one with more side impact protection, and the seat just looks tiny and flimsy and the fact that it CAN be removed from the base to transport baby makes me think it may come loose from the base in an accident. I am very concerned about it. Should I just keep the stroller and give the car seat away (I know this is rude because it was a gift, but I really just want my baby to be safe)? What do you guys think?
yeah a convertible seat is what I was planning on getting. If I have to deal with my baby waking up I have to deal with my baby waking up lol.
I wish I knew which particular seat it was.
nm I do know. It is the Dotswana model.
Courage- That is my car seat in the recall picture. THANK YOU SO MUCH!

We are looking to switch from an infant carrier to a convertible seat and need to find a good one that is reasonably priced. This one seems to have good reviews.

Need opinions on this Graco MyRide Carseat?

I have a 4 month old son. We live upstairs and its a hassle to carry him in the infant seat every time. We could leave the infant seat in the car and just take him back/slash forth OR get a convertible seat now. Like this one…

http://i.walmartimages.com/i/p/00/04/74/06/10/0004740610546_500X500.jpg

I would like any opinions on this seat from ppl who already use it. Oh and does this have belt lock offs? I also wonder if this fabric would be too hot for the upcoming spring/summer weather. As my son gets hot easily no matter how I dress him.

Its on rollback at walmart.com for 129.00 even if we still use his infant seat for awhile. It would be absolutely crazy to pass up this good of a deal for 40 lb rear facing seat. I think I’ll convince my husband to get it while on lunch break LOL

Which convertible infant car seat fits best in a 2002 Chevy Cavalier? My 9 month old son still needs to ride rear- facing until a year old. There is not much room to be able to get him in and out in the graco convertible seat that we purchased. Any suggestions….?

My daughter is 27 months old and has outgrown her convertible carseat by the length but not weight. She weighs 24 lbs and I believe the next size up is the kind you use with the seat belts of the car? So is she still to small for a booster seat or should I just buy a bigger convertible seat?
