Anyone who has knowledge of car insurance?

I accidentally backed up into another car I own. My fiance is paying the car payments and insurance for the car I backed up into but the car is in my name. We talked to the insurance agency (state farm) and our insurance agent told him that since they can’t raise my insurance because I own both vehicles then they are going to take away his "good driving rate" so his insurance will go up. How in the world do these insurance places work? that’s not fair because he was in the passenger seat when it happened. If anyone is knowledgeable of car insurance please help me understand if I am getting screwed or not and why they are picking on him and not me… we are getting the door replaced after our 500 deductible is met.
I don’t crash a lot ‘prefessional peon’, this is my very first accident and I am 33 years old with an excellent driving record….thanks for the answer and the verbal beating. :(

Aren’t buses or subway cars more likely to get in accidents, just like cars, in which you are required to wear a seat belt? On airplanes, however, how much safety/protection does the seat belt offer in case of a crash?

Just a silly question.

Every time I see her I tell her that it is not safe but i’m not exactly sure why it’s not safe, I have two kids but I just always faced them back until they were 1 I never questioned it. But I don’t know what to tell her to make her do it, it makes me angry that just because it is more convenient for her to put her in and take her out that way she risks the child’s safety. Anyone know what can happen when they are facing forward? any suggestions on what to tell her to make her turn her around. thanks!
No I am not joking, all of these things are what I thought about her neck not being strong enough for a crash and I told her this and she still does it… because" it’s easier" she says. Thanks for answering I will use some of your words to describe it and maybe she will get the picture.

Car Seat Recalled and I Never Knew?

We purchased a Mia Moda Viva Supreme infant car seat for our son in April 2009. He was born in July 2009. The seat was recalled in October 2009 due to a metal harness splitter plate on the back of the car seat that has sharp edges that can cut the harness and the stay-in-car base can crack during a crash. I filled out the product registration card when we purchased it and mailed it back to them, I think I may have even registered it online. I did not receive any notification about this recall at all. I went on the website today to look for a new stroller and found the recall information! I was so mad that my son has been riding in this seat for the last 8 months and I never knew that it was unsafe!
Have you ever had a car seat recalled? Did you get a notification from the manufacturer? Isn’t that what the product registration cards are for, to inform the consumer about recalls and product updates? If not, what are they for? Why do I waste my time filling them out if they are not going to notify me of something like this?

The reason we purchased this seat over others was due to it’s high safety ratings! How ironic!
On their website you have to input your seat’s serial numbers and manufacture date and then they determine if your seat is eligible for reimbursement. If it is then they send out a "return kit" in which you must cut out the seat belt and send it to them and they will send reimbursement when they receive it back.

This has been bugging me: I keep finding things like blankets with feet, bulky infant snowsuits, strap covers, bundle me covers with pads that go under baby, and head positioners to be used in infant car seats. It doesn’t make sense since car seat companies and the safety researchers say no. So many parents assume that because it’s sold and the package says it’s safe, then it must be. And, why not? I’d believe it, too, if I didn’t know any better.

Shouldn’t it be illegal for them to even be sold in the first place?
I do live in a cold weather climate–we use Kidopotomos covers that have elastic going around the entire outside of the seat which doesn’t interfere with the way the seat works at all. Snowsuits are unnecessary–use a blanket over the baby.
I’m not talking the head positioner that comes with the Graco seat–I’m talking about the ones that you buy separately (snuzzler, etc). The ones that haven’t been crash tested.

Despite the laws regarding an infant in Rear Facing position for 1 year and 20 lbs, why do parents still tend to switch for Forward Facing before the child is 1 year old, even though their weight is over 20 lbs? I know they say the infant is happier and they can see out the window and all, but the child shouldn’t have a say in how they sit, cause they don’t know about accidents and how they can be severely hurt in a crash, only the parents know. So, why make the child happy, by putting them in more danger? The child should have no say in how they sit, since they have no idea about safety. Even if their legs are really long, wouldn’t it be better to have potentially broken legs than a spinal injury? Also, I do realize some have siblings in which are sitting forward, but should THAT really give you the idea to make the decision to FF your child too young, for the child happiness?

I just want to know, why parents (not the ones who keep RF, but the ones who do it too early) do this? Why?
MJ, you didn’t answer my question.
By Howdy: They do make convertible seats. And you said a screaming baby annoys you more than the safety?
An advantage to see the child is not worth the risk.

The convince of getting the child in the seat, is not worth the risk.
Stacy S: They do make convertible car seats that go up to 35lbs. My son hasn’t used an infant seat since he was 4 months old, but he will be RR well past age 1. Also, for you uneducated mind, BROKEN LEGS ARE BETTER THAN YOUR CHILD HEAD BEING THROW FROM HIS SPIN, wow you are such a smart cookie.
And Stacy S. I want to add that I want to know about those mothers who FF before age one, again you read so well.
Well Satcy S. I have been using yahoo for several years, missy miss miss, LMAO. And I do spend my time after my son is asleep on here before bed. So what? Don’t be mad cause I pointed YOU out. I didn;t say what you said was bad, but you can RF in convertible car seats. I mean, my son is not 1 yet, and we have been out of an infant seat a long time ago. YOU must have some time on your hands too since you edited your UNEDUCATED comment.
AS of now, I have answered 2,604 questions in a 3 year period miss Stacy S.

We have a 2004 PT Cruiser that gets the job done, but may be getting a little too cramped for our family of 4 which will be 5 soon. I think we could even fit all the children in the back seat, but the idea of two of our children being up against the door in their car seats terrifies me if there was a side crash. I have been searching and researching vans and SUV’s, but there are so many to choose from. Most of our research have been done on the internet, but we have test driven a few Town and Country vans that I really liked. But once I got home and looked at reviews online, I was back at square one because their reviews were not that favorable. I NEVER thought it would take soooo much into upgrading a family vehicle.

here’s what we are looking for in our upgrade (also, please tell us what we may need as we may not know)

The ability to seat 5 with good cargo space for groceries in the rear as well as to store baby strollers and bags, etc for in and out of town travel.
Great safety features such as front and side air bags (an anything else im missing).
Great safety for children ages 4 and under (we have a 3 yr old, a 17 mo old and new baby due soon)
if van, at least one (electronic?) sliding door
if suv or crossover, easy to get 3 small children in and out especially when my husband’s not around
I dont really care about dvd entertainment etc as that can easily be upgraded after sale for less.

Ok I think thats it. if I’ve missed anything, just let me know!
Thanks everyone so far. My mentioned the Ford Flex as well. So we’ll have to look into that one as well. Also it really doesn’t matter too much about how the outside looks or if the inside has a lot of perks. Just as long as it’s safe for our family with good storage room for groceries and baby things!

Unless it is some god awful crash, will most of the time, if you are in a crash, even a bad one, but wearing your seat belt, will people live most of the time without being paralyzed or anything? If not what usually causes them to die/be paralyzed even if wearing a seat belt?

I get so sick of seeing so many parents buckling their babies into car seats wrong. It drives me insane! What’s the point in even using one if its not being used right? First of all, babies MUST remain rear facing until they are AT LEAST one year AND 20 pounds. That is only the minimum though. The longer you rear face your baby, the safer they are. Most car seats can rear face up to 35 pounds. If you have ever been in a crash, remember the tremendous amount of force it can put on your neck? Well imagine a little baby trying to hold their head up in a crash. They are simply not strong enough to withstand the force of a crash, which is why rear facing can save their life because the shell of the car seat absorbs the impact instead. Now as far as using car seats correctly..make sure the car seat is always buckled in very tightly. The car seat should not be able to move back and forth and be wiggled easily. Also, the straps should be very snug on your child. You should be able to get no more than 2 fingertips between the strap and your child’s shoulder. The straps should also always be on the shoulders, not slipping off the shoulders. The chest clip also always needs to be all the way up to armpit level. I see so many moms who have the chest clip way down by the child’s waist and the straps are way too loose. If you get into a crash like that, I can almost guarantee your child will be ejected from the car seat and possibly thrown from the vehicle because the strips and clip won’t be able to keep them in the seat. If the chest clip is down too far, the straps will simply fall to the sides of your child and the child will rip right out of the seat. And with older children..they should always remain in a booster seat until they are at least 4′9. The longer an older child remains in a 5-point harness, the safer they are. My son has the Graco Nautilus car seat and he can remain buckled in the 5-point harness until 65 pounds! I included links of pictures to show the correct and incorrect way to buckle your child. I just want to make sure everyone knows the right and wrong way to buckle their kids.

This first picture shows how unsafe the buckle job is. That child would be ripped from her seat in a crash http://www.safechildofmine.com/files/187…

This is how a baby should be buckled with the straps nice and tight and the chest clip up at armpit level http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v626/c…

At least watch this short a video about the importance of rear facing. Its very important information http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y2DVfqFhs…
Well what the heck..sorry I’m not sure why the links aren’t working. Go to youtube and type in rear facing. Its the first video that comes up. Please watch!

I read in parents magazine that kids are 5x safer in a crash if they are facing backwards. while the current recommendation is to face backward until 1 year and 20 lbs, this new data suggests they face backwards in a toddler seat until 30 pounds and 36 inches.

So where, pray tell, are my child’s legs supposed to go? Is he supposed to sit in fetal position, his chin resting on his knees?

booster/car seat question?

My neice is 4 yrs old and weighs a good 45 lbs. The top of the car seat is about level with her nose. Her parents dont see a problem with this. What can happen? Im about ready to buy her a booster seat myself, but I dont want to spend the money if it isnt really necessary. Please let me know!
I realize she is too big.
Specifically, I want to know why she needs a booster, what can happen if she were in a crash in the convertible seat.

They say it was one of the best rated a year and a half ago, but the Britax website says it’s been "retired." It’s in pristine condition, and has never been in a crash. Any info would be helpful!

I’ve had to transport my kids from time to time, and there hasn’t been enough seatbelts. My friend has told me that it’s fine to hold my child on my lap in the frontseat as there’s an airbag, and if that doesn’t work, as the car is old, then i should be able to hold on to my child in a crash. She has also told me that my kids are fine in the backseat unrestrained as the frontseats will stop them. She never restrains her kids, or herself, and I never wear my seatbelt as I survived a crash when i was young because I was unrestrained, and i’ve never buckled up since. I always restrain my kids, but I only have one car, and my husband normally takes it to work, and I have to get a lift with friends. I’m not sure what to do as something tells me that it’s not safe to hold a child in the frontseat, but nothing has happened so far! What could go wrong Can anyone give me some tips? There’s normally my friend and I, and five kids (my two and my friends three, all under 5) in a small hatchback!

KeyFit 30 Infant Car Seat?

I heard that this is rated the number one car seat….for installation. But honestly, I could care less how hard it is to put the car seat in. (Stop being so lazy people!!) What I want to know is how SAFE is this car seat? Has anyone gotten into a crash and know from experience? I know how to properly install car seats no problem and I don’t mind the time it takes, all I want to know is how safe this car seat is for crashes. Thanks.
Woah, calm down. I wasn’t trying to call any one stupid for not putting in car seats the correct way. I wasn’t attacking you. But with MY friends I see them put it in and complain and then the car seat wobbles and they just give up and don’t care so I have to fix it. So when I say lazy people, I’m talking about the people like my friends that complain so much about it when they don’t even TRY to put it in the right way. I honestly don’t even have a Keyfit 30 car seat, I have a Britax Boulevard CS car seat, I was simply just wondering about how safe the car seat actually is.

The air bag light stays on in my 2001 Dodge Dakota?

I have 37,000 miles on this truck and this is the only thing that is wrong with it. They told me at the dealer that it would cost around 0 to fix. That seems pretty high to me. Is there any way a person can know if the air bag will work or not in a crash ?
