I went to the DMV to have my infant carrier base installed and they put it in the center of the backseat, telling me that was the safest. I have a new VW Jetta Wagon. It has the latch system but only on the two sides, not in the middle. It was hard for the guy to get it in properly with a tight enough fit. My husband thinks it should be installed on one of the sides instead of the middle. He also thinks it should be easy to take in and out for when we need to lay down the back seat to transport something large. I thought it should be professionally installed and then left alone. But, that takes away from a big part of the functionality of the car. We really need to be able to lay down the back seat sometimes. Has anyone else run into this? Do you leave your car seat base in place? Do you always have to put them in the middle?

I’m not very experienced in flying, seeing as I’ve only flown once. I’m traveling alone with my 9mth old daughter, so of course, I didn’t purchase a seat for her. I was told that I can bring her infant carrier & stroller to make things easier for in between flights. I’ve heard that I can just check it at the gate…but where exactly is "the gate?" Is that right before you board the plane? Do they charge money to do that? Will I still be able to bring a diaper bag as a carry on? HELP!!!

With our 3rd child, we only used the infant carrier for 2 months and then decided to just buy a convertible car seat. Luckily the infant car seat was from his brother, so it wasn’t a waste of money. I’m thinking for the next baby we might just get a convertible car seat instead of the infant one. What’d you use?
I haven’t read up on car seat safety in a few months, but the last I read back in September said that babies shouldn’t be left in the infant carriers when they are not in the car because it restricts the oxygen flow.

I am looking for a new infant carrier before I’m even pregnant because I want the best fit for me. With my daughter we had a Graco SafeSeat and it was way too heavy! I also had the stroller but we decided a jogging stroller would better suit us so I sold both the seat and stroller once she out grew the seat.
So now I’m looking for a carseat with base(s) that is easy to use, install and adjust. It also has to be light and narrow since we will need to fit 3 carseats in the back of my car…a Grand Prix. I also want a comfortable handle. Some of the ones I’ve seen have a handle that is smooth on the front side but on the back it’s open/hollow and that hurts my arm. I usually just loop my arm through the side of handle instead of using the actual handle spot on top.
I want a carrier to hook in the car and lift out each time to start with instead of a stationary seat. Once the baby begins sitting up we may change to a rear-facing carseat that stays in the car since s/he will be able to sit in carts, highchairs etc.
Does anyone have any suggestions for me this time around?

My 10mon old daughter weighs in at about 22lbs. About 2mons ago, she was transitioned from her infant carrier to a convertible car seat. My question is: My mother still has her infant carrier (maximum weight is 20lbs).
Is it ok if my mother uses that car seat until I can get her a convertible car seat in about a month or so?
THX!

Dane is completely out of his infant carrier car seat now and I would really like to sell it. As I suggest though to everyone I know never buy and infant carrier used because you don’t know what it has been through…
Now I am eating my own words… LOL! His car seat was very expensive and we even have an extra base for it. What would you do in this situation? Try and post it to craigslist? Do you even think I’ll get any bites?
Suggestions please? Thanks in advance. =)
We are not having any more kids and I thought about donating it to the needy but in this situation I would love to get the money for it so I can buy Dane and Dominic Summer clothes… All great ideas though.

Am I missing something here?……
If a newborn/ infant is worn/ carried the majority of the time, are there any pros to having an infant carrier…. other than dining out & the convenience of letting them finish their short nap if they fall asleep in the car and then have to be moved?
Thanks everyone (no thumb’s down from me, btw). We have 2 infant carriers, my oldest used one and my youngest used his as a car seat and that’s it. My husband wants to use one w/ our 3rd child but I don’t see the point. Just want to make sure I’m not missing something.

What car seat (convertable seat for 5lb-40+lb, rear and front facing) do you recommend? How is the safety, fit in the car, comfort for the baby, etc?
When did your baby transition from infant carrier/car seat to the convertable seat?

I have a 2000 Honda Accord Coupe so it is a two door. We bought a travel system and we installed the infant carrier base last night in the center of the back seat but it seems like it is not tight. I do have leather seats so I am not sure if that is what is making it slide but I am wondering if anyone else had had this problem (with carrier base "sliding" back and forth) and what did you do?
I do not have the LATCH system in my car (older than 2002).

I’m debating whether to buy an infant carrier or skip that step and get a convertible car seat. What’s your opinion on convenience and safety?

Did you or do you think the infant carrier’s that you can take out and in the car and put on the base, are annoying, bulky, heavy, and just all around harder to use?

I know a lot of people come on here looking for advice about what car seat to get when their LO outgrows the infant carrier, and want a Britax but can’t afford it.
http://www.albeebaby.com/britax-sale-items.html has some really good deals on certain Britax models right now. I just ordered one for 9.99 and it is at my local BabiesRUS for 0. There’s also free shipping until January 31st so it’s a great deal.

What infant carrier can be a front and back carrier? Which one is the best? By front and back I mean a carrier that can be placed on the parents front or back. Not the way the baby faces. Thanks.
