weirdo family watching me breastfeed…?

my in laws - more specifically, my mother in law - is freaking me out.

I have an 11 day old girl, and weve had some problems getting breastfeeding established, so im somewhat self conscious and unsure.

Whenever my mother in law comes to "help out" (consisting of her sitting beside the baby in her car seat, just staring at her for 4 hours and doing nothing at all "helpful") and i have to breastfeed, she comes over and like stares at the baby while shes nursing. Dont get me wrong, my mother in law is kind and sweet (and brings me pizza on her visits!) but it just unnerves me a bit…

I get stressed out, (i dont want this woman looking at my areola) and baby gets stressed and cant latch on.

What do i do? Ive tried covering her with a blanket but the mother in law comes and lifts it up so she can see better. I would go into another room, but if its just me and her i feel kinda bad … especially as she brings me pizza!

Help someone!

first time mom to be…need advice! ?

ok my mother in law bought us a stroller travel system at a yard sale it seems to be in good condition but i just learned that it’s not safe to use a car seat that is more than 5 years old. well i was looking at the model number and looked it up on the evenflo website to see if it was still good and to make sure there was no recalls well i put in the model number in correctly and it said that either i put in the number wrong or they no longer have that specific product.
now does that mean the car seat is bad?
i’m a first time mom so if anyone could please help it would be much appreciated.
thank you!
and it was made in ‘02 but i need to know if they don’t hold that product anymore if that means it’s not good or safe?

My mother in law is planning on purchasing this for my husband and I’s first. We are expecting a boy and do not want any thing toooo girly. I have no idea what I am looking for and what is the most safe that we would also be able to use for future kids (if there are no recalls).

What do you have? Do you like it? etc.

I’m going to Cancun next week for my 30th B-day with my husband and our 4 month old daughter and some friends. People are telling me it’s not safe there. Should I be concerned about taking my baby? I’m getting kinda nervous.
My mother in-law is also going with us to help watch my baby when we are out.

My mother-in-law drives a new Volkswagen Beetle. She got a car seat for my son and installed it. When I went to check that the car seat was properly installed, I noticed that the seat belt didn’t lose the slack/didn’t lock. Does it lock automatically when the car starts, or is there something wrong with her seat belt?

My 12 month old baby HATES riding in the car. He started in an infant-carrier style seat. We then switched him to a more comfortable rear-facing seat. Recently, we turned that same seat around to be forward facing. We’ve tried giving him toys, a sipee cup, putting a mirror on the seat he faces. It doesn’t matter if the trip is for 5 minutes or 45 minutes. He starts screaming the second he realizes that we are putting him in his car seat. He gets so upset that he gets red splotches all over his face and he throws up. Sometimes, we can entertain him by playing peekaboo or giving him Cheerios, but this only keeps him calm for a few minutes. My mother-in-law suggested that he may have motion sickness.

Is there anything that we can do to make riding in the car less of a nightmare?
I think that Nimo2 is right. The other answers were good, but I’ve tried those things or variations of them and nothing seems to work. I was afraid that it was a stage that we would have to suffer through.

What I think that I’ll try though is getting him to sit or play around the car seat outside of the car as was suggested (THANK YOU). Just looking at the seat makes him cry. Maybe getting him used to the seat in a happy non-car environment will help.

Which one is best from the two? And why.. I have both, and my mother in law purchased one yesterday when I already have a baby carrier (not used yet) not too sure which to use more.

Hey all how old does a baby have to be to travel by air over seas. My mother in law has cancer and wants to see the baby she was suppose to come here but now she is having problems and the doctors say she shouldn’t. This poses a proble with me because I am not thrilled in having to take my newborn son to over seas. But I want her to see her grandson. What’s your advise.

My sister-in-law has a Graco travel system and we are looking at a Evenflo travel system. My mother-in-law would like to be able to use the same base in her car instead of needing 2 different ones. We have heard that the base will work with both brands but I can not find anything for sure.

I’m attempting to pick out my first car seat but I am getting overwhelmed by the plethora of information and reviews..

It seems to -me- that small infants won’t fit into most convertible car seats due to the lowest strap-setting being too high for them. Like, the Britax Decathlon is an awesome and very safe car seat and fits an infant with 9-10" (at lowest setting) shoulder heights.. but I’m concerned that infants tend to be smaller than that when newborns?

Do you think YOUR newborn would’ve fit into the Britax Decathlon? Is there some other convertible car seat with lower shoulder settings?

Did any of you use a convertible car seat from day one and have no issues with it?

If not, and if ya’all think that going with a classic infant car carrier/seat is best..

Which one?! I don’t like these base-things. I don’t like the idea of any extra moving parts. Extra moving parts means extra parts to FAIL.

I read on one consumer-reporting site about consumer complaints about safety .. Britax convertibles and Evenflo Triumph convertibles had very few (only a couple hundred) complaints .. whereas Graco Snugrides, Safeseats, and Chicco carseats (the plastic seats with bases) had thousands of complaints involving cheap materials, ie. they break easily, infants tear up the foam, latches come undone or break.. (And these seats are not what I would necessarily call CHEAP) sometimes causing injuries.

It could just be that Britax is used a lot less often — but, somehow I don’t think so.

Somehow, I think they must just manufacture their seats to higher standards.

That being said, I don’t think my mother-in-law will buy me the infant Britax (Companion) since it can only be used up to 22lbs. She won’t like spending 300$ on a carseat that could possibly only be used for about 5 months if my child ends up large.

Most likely she’ll insist that I get a cheaper car seat if I think I must use the newborn carriers instead of a convertible.

She wouldn’t mind spending 300$ on a car seat that I could use for possibly 3, 4, or 5 years, though. Like the Decathlon.

Sooo..

Decathlon? Newborn? Anyone?

How safe are cheap car seats for babies?

We paid quite a lot of money for our babies car seat and it fits perfectly into our car seat and dosent move an inch when it is fitted. My mother in law on the other hand got one that was really cheap and to me it dosent feel as tightly secure as mine does, ours is pretty heavy and hers is really light. Are car seats all just as safe as each other because they need to meet certain standards or do you think I should be concerned about it and maybe ask her to use mine insted? I do kind of want to ask her to use mine but I dont want to be rude, I dont know if I am worrying for no reason, as you can tell I’m pretty confused! What do you think I should do?

My daughter turned 5 in May and she still uses a booster. She was going with my mother-in-law and her cousin (who is same age, actually just turned 5 in July) to a sleep over and she said "I don’t use a carseat anymore, I haven’t for a while." I thought they were supposed to use them until they were like 7. Please let me know. Thanks.
Just to clarify, my daughter absolutly used her carseat and will continue to do so, it was her cousin who didn’t have one. Of course my daughter cried cause after her cousin didn’t have to use one, she didn’t understand why she should either. Thanks for the answers.

My sister-in-law is having her first baby. My mother-in-law threw her a baby shower 2 days ago and invited the entire family. It was a large shower. Today in the mail I received an invitation for another baby shower for her that is being thrown by a close friend who was in attendance at the first shower. I already bought a gift for the first shower. Do I have to get her another gift or even attend the 2nd shower?
