My boys are 2 & 3 yrs. old. I call them "my little Hercules’!" They break thru every barrier I place for their protection! I put those push down locks for drawers, so that they don’t open them, and all they do is pull the drawers until the safety breaks! Then they end up throwing out their clothes all over their room! I even put those hook and eyes at my height , to keep them from opening the doors to other rooms and bathrooms, and they work together to grab my office chair and roll it out into the hall and stand up on it, and unhook the eye! And open the door! I didn’t teach them any of this! How do they know? And I even put those magnetic locks on the oven and fridge. (Waste of money!) And I even took their room door down because they broke it! So I have a child gate to keep them in their room during nap time, and through out the night until morning. But they break thru by taking turns, kicking and pushing thru the gate til it falls over! I’m losing money on all this safety Help!

Have any moms used a baby pouch, like the baby bijorn or the ergo carrier? I don’t want to use a wrap because i’m nervous the baby would fall out or slip through but the carriers look like a good way to hold your baby while keeping your arms or hands free. Are they actually helpful or useful or are they a waste of money?

I’m talking about the kind that is generally used for the first 6 months or so (Our Australia guidelines say 6 months, or 9kg ONLY for these seats) like this
http://www.babybunting.com.au/index.php/car-safety/32524.html
I did not have one with my first pregnancy, but after thinking about it we thought it might work out handy as we have a son over two now, and a few people had raved about them…especially the ones that connect straight into a pram.
However, a few people have had the adverse reaction, saying they are a waste of money and putting the straps back in everytime was more of a hassle than unbuckling a newborn from the other sort of seat.
If anyone has one, or doesn’t have one, can you let me know about your opinions towards them? Worth it? Not worth it?
After 6 months we still plan to rear face our next baby in a convertible car seat, because from my question the other day I was able to find a seat that went up to 12kg rear-facing, and then after that it can go up to 18 kg or forward facing.
The straps that connect the base to the car are the ones people are talking about.
I thought it was just going to be snap in and go but when we looked at them there is a strap that needs to be threaded through the front of the capsule in order to secure the whole thing.
Like this sort of strap http://www.globalcars.com.au/site/images/Baby_capsule_2.gif
The strap needs to be threaded into the capsule …well the capsule we are looking at anyway.

I’ve been just browsing through websites looking at car seats and I noticed that almost all of the infant carrier kind stop at 35lbs max. Doesn’t seem like you’d get a lot of use out of it and seems like a waste of money but at the same time,it does seem like being able to take the whole seat out of the car could be convenient.
Which do you think would be better, getting a infant one and then switching or just start and keep the convertible one? Is their a difference in the safety?

I need to buy a new car seat for my 5 month old son. The carrier we have now is good up to 22lbs and 29 inches long. He’s currently 20 lbs and 28 inches long. I would like to buy another carrier, but the max length I’m finding is for a 32 inches long infant. I’m wondering if that will make it to the 1 year mark when he needs to move to a front facing seat so I won’t need to buy another one? I’m assuming it’s likely that he’ll grow another 4 inches in the next 7 months?
My only issue with getting a convertible, is that I live in a VERY cold/snowy/windy state … and I thought it would be safer/easier in the winter in a carrier? Still a waste of money? Or worth it?

We have a newborn and a big boy, and we live in the suburbs, so this wouldn’t be our pedestrian minivan. I was thinking for longer excursions when big bro might get tired and cranky. Problem is, he was out of his own stroller very early, so he may not want to use the ride-behind seat. Would this be a waste of money?

Does it honestly come in handy to have a car seat that you can just detach and carry inside? Our car seat doesn’t do that, which is a shame because it was 0…. My daughter will be born in the winter time so I would like to just be able to throw a blanket over the car seat and bring her inside just to make sure she doesn’t get sick, rather than take her out (wake her up if she’s sleeping) bundle her up, and sprint for the house….
I found one that I really like. It’s used, but I think it would be ideal, and It’s not very expensive. When she outgrows it, I can always pass it down to other friends/family who are expecting as well….Should I get it, or would it be a waste of money??
BTW- I plan on using the other car seat later, because it is an infant-to-toddler car seat…it just doesn’t detach or have handles….
This is the car seat that we currently have. It was given to me as a gift from my mother… I don’t want to offend her and not use it, and I can’t take it back because I don’t have the receipt for it and I don’t want to ask for it…

The other car seat is this one…

Or I should say does your baby like it? I haven’t boughten a baby swing yet, the motorized ones not the ones you have to push. Some people have told me that a swing is certainly a necessity and some people say they are a waste of money, I want to hear others opinions before I decide to buy one or not.

With our 3rd child, we only used the infant carrier for 2 months and then decided to just buy a convertible car seat. Luckily the infant car seat was from his brother, so it wasn’t a waste of money. I’m thinking for the next baby we might just get a convertible car seat instead of the infant one. What’d you use?
I haven’t read up on car seat safety in a few months, but the last I read back in September said that babies shouldn’t be left in the infant carriers when they are not in the car because it restricts the oxygen flow.

If you bought a car seat with 40 lbs maximum weight and when you child outgrown of it, would you switch to booster seat or another carseat with 65 lbs maximum weight? I just wonder why people say to buy the 40 lbs carseat is waste of money, anyway you have to switch your child to booster when he reach to 40lbs?
And one more question, I can not decide between Britax Roundabout 50 and Maxi Cosi. I don’t see them in person , they’re just sold online. I’d like to buy one with comfortable and cool cover so my baby is not wet in summer. He’s always getting wet in his infant car seat even in winter, that material is horrible.
So i need your experiences.
Thank you.
I went to many stores and couldn’t find these 2 kind in stores

i know where i can find an infant carrier. i’m not THAT stupid… haha!
anyways, i need to know wat the cheapest, yet durable infant carrier that i can get. it’s only for temporary use.
i’ll be flying out of town and i think that an infant carrier would be best for my soon to be 11month old daughter. i don’t want to pay a lot of money for something that i’m only going to be using 2 times. flying to and from. so, if any body has any ideas wat kind of infant carrier i can get that is cheap, yet good quality?
THANKS. but i found a good one. AND cheap. by even flo. 16.99. holds up to 28 pounds. at walmart. i hate walmart. but target sells the same thing for 26.99. so, i am looking for cheap cuz i’m only using it twice. would you buy something for 50-60 dollars if you were only going to use it twice?? i wouldn’t wat a waste of money.

I am thinking of getting toilet seat safety locks b/c my 10 month old is very close to walking. Has anyone used these or are they a waste of money? What brands did you hate? Like? Thanks.
