I have a ring sling I bought off of ebay and I love it. My only problem is that my daughter is really big (18 lbs and not yet 6 months), so it can get uncomfortable because the weight is all on one shoulder. I started using it when she was 3 wks old – she would sleep right through my grocery shopping and chores at home. I stopped using it for a while, but I started again when she was able to sit up on her own and now I can put her in a hip carry. She likes it because she can see around her and have her hands free. She actually fell asleep in it again the other day.
What I’d really love to have is a mei tei or a Kozy Karrier. The two-shouldered design will help with my daughter’s weight I think. I tried to make a mei tei from a pattern I got online, but I just wasn’t sure it was sturdy enough. I didn’t make the straps long enough. The Kozy Karriers (and also Ergos) look really nice, but I can’t afford to spend $80-100 on a sling.
Whatever kind you get, it’s a great investment. My daughter loves being held close, it keeps her calm and happy longer than anything else!
I have a froend on myspace that makes and sells slings they are super cute and im sure that she would answer any questions that you have

She is a super mom and used her own slings as well… Chech her out
I heard the ring sling is great…
I actually just bought one but it hasn’t arrived yet
The link I put is for a women on ebay that sells them at a great price..it’s where I got mine!
I have the ultimate baby wrap i bought it at babiesrus for 39.99 its real long but folds up into its own bag
its really easy to move around in and doesnt hurt my back when i carry my daughter in it i use it primarily when i walk my dog and its super easy to walk fast and bend over to clean my dogs mess.i really like it when i go shopping because strollers and carts dont fit through aisles and people dont touch her when shes right on me shes like a open bag of chips in a shopping cart
my 11 year old can use it to carry his sister around with help from me getting her in it and my hubby almost has it down
one problem i have is its a bit of a pain to take off because its soo long.
i have a friend who uses a me-tai and she loves it.its wraps baby just like the ultimate wrap but less fabric and costs around $100
I have the Maya wrap adjustable pouch in two colors, solid black and a green print. I love it! It took a while to get the hang of it…ok, maybe a week tops, but once I could position my son correctly, he loved it! I just had it yesterday while we were shopping and he was sitting facing out (kangaroo hold) and he loved it! He’s almost 5 months, 17 lbs, and my shoulders didn’t hurt at all! I took it easy though, and walked slowly. Unfortunately, they don’t sell this type anymore (not as popular as their ring sling) but since they’re the same concept, I’m sure any sling will be great for you.
You could also try sewing your own if you’re handy with the sewing machine, or you could make something similar to the Moby Wrap just using 5 yards of cloth at about 20-30" wide.
Babywearing really does make a mother feel safe and secure about her child. Of course, that’s not to say you should throw out the stroller!
I am a huge fan of the baby bjorn. It’s a bit more expensive than other brands, but you can get a gently used one off ebay for much less. They are very comfortable to use and is great for when the baby is brand new and faces in, or is older and faces out.
I love popping my son in it when I have to run into a store. He gets to look around and take in the world. It is a lifesaver around the house too. Best of all, my husband will use it too, around the house or when we’re out. There’s not a chance he’d use a sling!
