We brought him home at 8 months. In the foster home he was in, they were crushing him into an infant seat, and it took him about a month to be able to put him in the convertible seat without him crying. He was about 23 lbs when we got him. He is still back-facing, BTW. The seat says 30lbs, and at 13 months, he’s not quite there.
they say atleast 1 year old and 20 lbs.
My daughter hated the infant car seat and I bought her a convertible one when she was 11 months? but the one i bought her was for rear-facing (5lbs-20lbs) and front facing 20lbs-60lbs
wow 1.5 years old but i forget his weight like 25lbs i think..
Most of them have a limit of 20 lbs or 29 inches, whichever comes first. There really isn’t an age limit, but most babies outgrow their infant seat by their first Birthday
Some have a bit higher restrictions though, such as the Graco Safeseat.
as long he is still facing backwards and in a convertible seat that’s for
newborns up to 40 lbs then its fine
if you have him facing forward and in the wrong size seat then is illegal and unsafe, if so buy the right size and turn him around.
i did not move my son to the convertible seat until he was about 10 months only because he was close to the 20lbs and his other one got spray painted then i did not turn him facing forward until his birthday.
I had a BIG girl. She was around 3 months I believe when she began outgrowing her infant seat, and I just couldnt lug it around anymore!! She was probably around 15-20lbs, and her feet hung over the edge. We switched to a convertible carseat, and I had a mai tai carrier that I would wear her in for outings, since the carseat stayed in the car.
My daughter was 13 months when I switched to a convertible car seat. She was 21 almost 22 pounds.
He was 4 months old and 20 lbs and nearly 29 inches long….then we moved to a convertible car seat. He is now just one week over 2 years old and is 39 inches and 35 lbs – and still in the convertible car seat (until he is 40 lbs, I will keep him here).
state of conn. law must be one AND at least 20 lbs. so my daughter was one and she was 20 lbs 5 oz.
My daughter was 22lb and a year old before we switched her to a forward facing convertible seat.
My daughter was 20 lbs at 6 months old, so we got her a convertible seat which stayed rear facing until she was 10 months old. But she was literally too tall for it because she was already the size of a 2 year old and the doctor told us to switch her forward facing because she was literally having to sit indian style, which was more dangerous than being forward facing a month and a half early, her muscles were developed enough that she wasn’t at much risk for the whiplash and other problems that can be caused by facing forward too early. But that was an extremely weird case, and the law says they must face backwards until a year old and 20 lbs. She’s 20 months now and only an inch and a half shorter than your average 4 year old, so we’ll be switching to a highback booster with a 5 point harness here shortly. I am trying to find one that converts to a noback seat belt booster for later on, but I’m not having much luck with that yet, lol.
