What carseat should I buy for my one year old?
My daughter is 12.5 months and only 20 lbs. Her infant car seat holds up to 22lbs. I plan on keeping her in the infant carrier for a few more weeks until she pushes closer to 22lbs. I need to buy a new convertible seat that still can be rear facing. Which one should I buy? What has the best safety rating? I have some gift certificates from her birthday to Babies R’ Us plus a 15% off coupon so I guess I have to buy it from there. Any suggestions for one from that store?

We have the Britax Marathon . . . great safety ratings, comfortable etc . . . I have also heard good things about the First Years True Fit car seats.
They are both convertible car seats so that you can use them rear facing (safer) until she is about 30 lbs or so and then flip it to forward facing until she is ready for a booster seat.

Best wishes!
why does it still have to be rear facing? They’re all pretty good, and the associates at Babies R’ Us are real good with suggestions just buy one that best fits your car and you daughters size something that will grow with her and if you plan on having more children go with neutral colors incase.
I think all carseats are very safe. I personally use the Eddie Bauer convertible ones, I am currently using two carseats. A booster seat for my 4 yr old-and a regular carseat for my 2 yr old. Both are the Eddie Bauer 3-in 1 deluxe. I’ve found them to be very safe and also very comfortable for my children.

Now I think the most popular one is the Britax however I still trust my Eddie Bauer anyday.
With our budget we can’t afford Britax… but we did want to spend what we had to in order to be safe. Any seat that is used correctly should be safe for the weight/height/etc it is rated for… the extra money goes for getting one that will be more comfy or will work for higher harness weights.
We’ve gone with the ‘cheap’ convertables (Cosco Scenera) and will be getting the ‘nice’ combo seats when they outgrow them so we can harness past 40 pounds. Even there we aren’t going with the most expensive… we’ll be getting the Graco Nautilus for our 3 and 4 yr olds soon.
You can also get a ‘nice’ convertable that will harness past 40 pounds and then go right to a dedicated booster seat later for about the same price as our plan.
You can also try the ‘shopping guide’ in my source and the ‘over 40 pounds harness options’ for some ideas.
