I’d go with the ergo baby carrier, I got mine used for 65 dollars. It’s really comfy and puts the babies/toddlers weight on your hips so it’s more comfortable. Check craigslist, children’s resale stores, or look online for new ones. This carrier really lasts, even into the toddler years!
good luck
NOT the Infantino carrier lol Even when my LO was 5 pounds it still hurt my sholders and back.
Snugli.
my son used it when he weiged 8lbs now hes 15lbs and still love it. and it’s very good on my back and shoulders. i carried him in it for 8hrs straight.
I would recommend the Ergo. I’ve only used it, a homemade wrap, and the Baby Bjorn. I had the same problem with the Bjorn as you, but way before 16 lbs. My baby’s at least 19 lbs now and it’s totally comfortable to have her in the Ergo.
I would recommend the Ergo as well. You can carry a newborn in front and older babies up to 35 or 40 lbs ? in front or back. I have one and absolutely LOVE it.
Try a sleepy wrap…they are wonderful for newborns and you can use them thru the first year.
**I also have an Ergo, they are wonderful IMO when baby is over 3 months and can be used up until toddler years…a good buy for sure. Maybe do both a wrap and Ergo?
(Just thought this was interesting…)Check this out: you can still use a wrap for wearing baby on back…see this video for how…and notice she does it all under a minute! With practice, you get really good at it

I preferred the Bjorn over the Snugli. The Snugli was much more of a pain to put on. I would also consider one of the slings. There’s one called SlingEZ that looked nice. I’ve heard good things about the Ergo, but it’s expensive.
ERGO!
By far the most comfortable carrier! Love it!
An Ergo, hands-down. It’s a little pricey (about $100), but I can still carry my 2 year old in it when we go hiking. You can also buy a newborn insert to use it with a new baby, but I haven’t tried that yet.
I’m going to third (or fourth?) the ergo. we don’t have one because our moby wrap has been good to us, but my baby is getting a bit heavy for it too. I think once he gains a few more pounds, the moby is going to go bye bye. but I’ve heard great things about the ergo and I want one!
HotSling
If you are outside hiking or going great distances, I’d suggest the Kokopax. Baby K’tan is a nice comfortable sling that can adjust to different positions so you can have options for comfort.
I had the same problem with my baby bjorn. I bought the Bushbaby Cocoon (from BabyAnywhere.com) which has a back supporting system and absolutely love it!
i use a Baby K’tan and it has worked wonders. it’s comfy and easy to use and my baby sleeps in it for hours.
