What should you dress your newborn in for leaving the hospital?

Our first baby is due in mid February 2010 and we are not finding out the gender in advance. Any ideas for what to dress baby in? I also hear that you should dress your newborn in something that is a two piece because of the umbilical cord stub. Any ideas?

anything comfortable and appropriate for the weather. I had mine in a one piece and covered by a blanket the last week of September. Never heard of a 2 piece b/c of the stump. A one piece is loose around the waist, whereas the pants of a 2 piece have a waistband.
Something warm and comfy! My son had a sleepsuit and a two piece snow suit and my daughter had soft dungarees and the same snow suit on. I never had any problems with one piece clothes and umbilical cords, I actually think that two piece outfits would catch it more.
my baby was born in december. i dressed him in a one piece with footies and long sleeve and a blanket to cover him. whether its a onsie or a two piece it doesnt matter. the umbilical cord doesnt bother them unless it were to get yanked by something
oh and a cap of course
My son wore a blue onezie with a little puppy dog on it and dark blue pants and some cute little socks. It was the middle of summer so it was warm out.
something soft comfy and warm. my son was born in september so we put him in just a onesie and wrapped him. this way it wasn’t too hot. in feb it will be cold – put him in ur fav outfit of his and swaddle him with a cap on & he’ll be fine
i used him but it can go either way. congrats!
just get the baby something like a sleeper with footies. i got my daughter something special to wear home and didnt even end up putting it on her.
Right now since its -5 I would dress him is a full snow suit with car seat cover over top. I think that at myth. TONES of places in the world a two piece for baby just isn’t practical.
By Febuary here it might be -15 so we dress em’ extra warm. Have to start the car 10 mins earl too.
I didn’t find out the gender of my first son. My parents gave us a cute little two piece white outfit for Christmas so we decided that would be the outfit the baby would come home in since it was gender neutral. All our kids will be coming home in that outfit, whether boy or girl.
You could find a gender neutral outfit and of course be sure to have blankets or a snow suit to cover up with since it will be cold.
