What's the best thing to keep toddler afloat in swimming pool?

My son is 20 months. I just bought a vest with all around floation built in. I thought this was a winner until I took it home an started reading reviews online that it doesn’t keep the toddler afloat unless they’re using their legs and arms to work on staying a float. The inner tubes are normally made for babies. He’s 27 pounds. Any ideas what I can use that will more effectively keep him afloat?

try arm floaties they work wonderfully and they are cheap
the innertubes will be fine also
they have toddler sized ones anywhere
Parents and swimming lessons.
for your peace of mind, enroll in swim classes. stay with him at all times. the vest can give you a false sense of security, so get rid of it.
We go with a combo of the step in ring floaties (you know the ones that have little leg holes) and water wings.
I bought a little boat for my daughter at that age..you just put their lets in the holes. Your son is prob to heavy at 27 pounds, so i suggest arm floaties. At around 2 my daughter started using them and they work great…just make sure to always use supervision.
A parents arms.
Walk with child into water holding securely. Have fun jumping. Beware the water in the mouth scare!
Next, hold child away from body with out stretched arms. Twirl in circle. Let them feel fun of movement past body.
Step three, hold child afloat by just holding hands. Child will want to be closer than out stretched arm the first time, but can slowly move further back. Now walk backwards & let them feel their body glide over water as only afloat hanging onto you hands. Be sure to keep reassuring smile during each step. And for some children, all steps can not be accomplished on the same day.
I’m not giving store bought ideas b/c no matter what you buy at store, if it’s for a toddler, you should be right there next to your child. So why not let all of the fun, bonding & trust sharing be attributed to YOU, his hero.
Sarah we have like a swim seat that you can put them in and they can kick about and get used to the water. We had armbands but they would not even go on my sons arms they took up his whole arm!!!
Bless my 22 month old only weighs 22lb!!! he is a skinny minnie!!
