When can baby sit in the shopping cart?

How old was your baby when he/she began to sit in the shopping cart seat? I just got my daughter a new car seat that stays in the car b/c she’s too big for her infant car seat. She’s only 4 months old (and weighs almost 19 pounds) so she can’t sit unassisted yet. I don’t mind doing the baby carrier thing, but in a few weeks she’s going to be way too big for that. She sits fairly straight up but not for too long.
When did you kids start sitting in the shopping cart?

when i had my son i put him in a shopping cart at 6-7 months.
A friend of mine said that she would put her daughter in the cart and prop her up with a few rolls of paper towels. I never tried that with my son, but it painted an interesting picture!
I would suggest waiting until your daughter can sit up unassisted.
She sat in the shopping cart seat when she was almost 6 months old. She was starting to sit up on her own. She is now 7 months and sits up in highchairs and in the shopping carts. I always use my floppy seat cover. It is so soft and keeps germs/dirt away…plus toys can link to it to entertain her. If you don’t have one already, look into getting one…I love mine!

My daughter is 4 months and 17 lbs, and the infant carrier is exhausting! She sits really well supported, and can sit unsupported for a few seconds. I tried her in the shopping cart seat and she just seemed a little too wobbly still. I’m going to wait a couple of weeks until she’s a little closer to sitting alone and try again.
I also have one of those cart/high chair covers to use so that she can’t suck on the handle that everyone else has touched!
Mine were able to sit up in the cart at about 4 months. Make sure you strap her in though so she doesn’t tip over. I also think those cart covers are neat and prevent the baby from picking up all kind of germs. Babies her age will chew on the metal of the cart and if you have the cart cover you don’t have to worry about it.
They have new car seats out that can still be rear facing, but accommodates larger children. The thing I linked can hold them rear facing to 33 lbs, and it can be used forward facing after that. It is dangerous to have a 4 month old forward facing. Sorry, I am assuming she is forward facing. I put my kids in carts more when we stopped using the infant carriers around 1 year old, but a we did a few times earlier.
6 months is when my sisters kids sat in a cart.
She can more than likely sit up now, as long as she has good head support and can sit assisted. Babies can hold on to the cart to keep themselves upright.
Put her in the cart and see how she does.
Otherwise get a carrier that will fit her better, backpack carriers can work well for shopping, but the limit on those is that they can sit assisted -though it depends on the design. Otherwise a wrap will allow front, back, and hip carries and will work for any size baby/toddler.
You should not even consider putting her in a sit up end of a shopping cart until she’s a toddler, around age two. If you make her too fat she will take longer to do all these physical things for herself. Put her carrier in the big part of the grocery basket and put the groceries around it. Or use the back part of her stroller for essential groceries and go twice as often to the grocery store until she’s much older and can sit up on her own. And don’t forget the sanitizer when she starts using those carts - they are really filthy and they put their hands in their mouths too, so clean it all!
my daughter was 5 months when she first sat up by herself, thats when I let her sit ina shopping cart. She could sit unassisted by 4 months 2 weeks that is when I sat her up. She is 6 months 3 weeks, 17lb 26in right now and she crawls all over the place, it’s killing me
I never used a carrier or a car seat in the stores. She was always in her sling. It made shopping a lot easier- and she hated to be strapped in.
Now, she is in her Mei Tei or she is in the cart. She loves both so it’s easy.

ah the trials, lol. My son is in a car seat too and I have to put the items around him and under the cart…not much room. Sometimes I get my daughter to push another cart and I take in the stroller or put him in a cart and we have 2 carts, lol. I think I put my daughter in around 6 months I think. I was more worried about the germs and put a blanket underneath her. (that is for the carts with the carseat attatched). For my babies to sit in the cart itself (the metal part).. I wait until they are 11 months
Mine were about 5 months old. they don’t have to be able to sit up ON their own, necessarily. They are leaning against the back, put the belt on them (it helps). In the beginning I would take a couple baby blankets or my jacket and stuff them in the seat on either side of my girls, to keep them from falling over. I also headed straight for the milk or bottled water first (or watermelon) or something else large and sturdy and put that in the seat next to them to help them stay up (if it was cold, I’d wrap a blanket around it so my baby didn’t get cold).
