I do NOT recommend using craigslist or a second hand store. Car seats are one time use things, once they are in an accident, they are not safe to use. A car seat is one thing that should never be purchased used. You have no way of knowing how that car seat was treated or if it was in an accident. There could be unseen damage that could compromise the seats ability to protect the child. And I would not trust the word of the seller to simply say it is okay. Never accept a used car seat from someone you don’t trust with the life of your child. And also, a used seat is more likely to be expired or recalled and if there is no manual included or the labels are missing, you’d have no way of knowing. Car seats are one thing that should not be skimped on. Accidents are the number one killer of children in America between 1 and 14 and a damaged seat cannot protect a child in an accident
What you *can* do, is contact your local Safe Kids coalition. You can find a listing of local coalitions here: http://www.usa.safekids.org/state_display.cfm The PA state coordinator is Anne Franchak 717-763-1890. Call either her or one of the local ones near you and explain the situation. They will be able to help you or point you in the right direction.
Go to craigslist.com and search under the free section. You can almost find anything on cragislist.
Try the craigs list free section for your city. http://www.craigslist.org/about/sites
check the on line editions of local newspapers, which are free. If she has no computer or internet access at home, the local library provides free access. Most have a Giveaway section listing things that are being donated for no charge. There are also local St Vincent de Paul stores, churches, and Goodwill stores everywhere where she might find them at a very low cost if not free.
Hope that helps.
have her state her case at a Good Will or Salvation Army, that’s why we donate unused items there, if I find out they don’t give them to her, there’ll be hell to pay, Just kidding. I’m pretty sure they’ll give them to her,
