Would you buy the baby essentials (crib, changing table, car seat etc) at a Babies R Us, or Walmart or Target?
I’ve seen alot of nice stuff at babies r us that were kind of expensive, that I’ve seen at WalMart and Target for less, but does more expensive mean better quality? I’m pregnant with my first (almost 3 months) and decided buying new would be better, but which stores have better quality?

Babies R Us and Walmart carry some of the same baby products…only Walmart sells them for less. I got my sons essentials at both stores depending on which I could get a better deal at.
The only item we bought regularly at Babies R Us was the Pampers Swaddlers only because they came in bigger boxes and usually had some type of sale. We buy mostly everything at Target, yes some items at Walmart. The only item I only find at a particular Walmart is the Totally Toddler (stain remover)! We now use the Kirkland Brand (costco) diapers, they are less expensive and are awesome! I love Target but we do get other stuff at the other stores. We did get the crib at Target just because I fell in love with that particular crib! Good luck!
I agree that Babies R Us is a little pricey..however saying that..I did buy and continue to buy all my stuff at Babies R Us.
the $$ doest always mean better quality!
im a 1st time mom with a 4 week old…i got all my stuff at target.
everything is moderately priced and good quality.
i got the crib with the changing table attached, it was like $300 but its worth it cuz it converts into a twin size bed.
my favorite thing about target is how they are all over the place..its so conveniant.
Are you planning on having more than one? Then quality in a crib is thoroughly important if you’re going to use it a lot. We didn’t use one at all with my son. He slept in a cradle in my room and now in my bed. Buying a crib (even though it was only $15 at goodwill) was a total waste.
Anyways – just b/c it is the same brand at Walmart and Babies R Us does NOT mean it is the same quality. Companies have differing levels of quality that they sell in different locations. It is only the exact same product if the model number is the same. I shop at Walmart routinely, and when I really need a quality item I will try and find it used. There is some safety issues purchasing used baby items, however, if you choose to.
CribS: make sure the you can not fit a pop can through the bars. Make sure it is not painted (could contain lead).
Car seats: never ever buy a used car seat.
Most other things can safely be purchased used.
Babies R Us has more selection, so its usually the best place to start. Figure out what you want, write it down, and then go online and see if you can get it at a cheaper price. This is particularly true of car seats. If you are planning to purchase an infant carrier, they’re all pretty much the same as long as you get a 5 point harness, NOT a 3 point. the only different one that stands out is the Graco SafeSeat1. Where most carriers only go to 20-22lbs, lasting kids only to 5-8 months of age, SafeSEat1 goes to 30lbs and lasts most kids to at least 12 months, many longer. Only problem is it has to be positioned at 45 degrees, no changing the recline at all for older babies who want to see more. Graco snugride is a great choice.
If you skip the carrier and go straight to a convertible, make sure you get one that will fit a newborn: Evenflo Triumph Advance is an awesome choice. Notice that both Walmart and Babies R Us have the Triumph Advance. Babies R Us has it in more than one color, and it comes with more removable padding to help support a newborn. $150 at Babies R Us, $130 at Walmart. So, see, its not always the same thing.
Babies R Us might have better quality, but with some things, that really doesn’t matter much. Remember that your baby won’t be little for very long, so some things don’t need to last very long at all. Babyproofing items are often best found at Babies R Us, where there’s more selection.
I would buy it at Wal-Mart or Target if it’s the same brand and model as at Babies R Us but cheaper. You can also look on store websites where people have rated the products. Sometimes something at Wal-Mart is just as good as someplace else, just less expensive. Personally, I’d buy everything at Wal-Mart or Target. I like Wal-Mart because I have one nearby, Target is 3 hours away.
They all have the same stuff. You should check out their return policies. I heard that Target just changed its return policy for things bought off of your registry (that you can only return one thing off of your registry unless you have a receipt), so I would look into that.
Also, there’s a lot of baby stuff at Babycenter.com and Amazon.com.
crib changing set at Walmart,
stroller travel system at Kmart
Big Lots has a little portable playpen/tent
I work at wal mart, and i buy alot of my stuff there. It all depends on how much you spend on something, and the name brand. If you buy a not so well known name brand, then it might not be as good as something thats well known. Wal Mart has alot of nice stuff, for good prices. But for big stuff, Sears has nicer, plus you can order out of the catalogue, so you don’t have to worry about quanity.
More expensive doesn’t always mean better.
As for the car seat, I don’t know if you have a stroller already, but i’d get a travel system. Its a stroller, that comes with a matching infant car seat. Both Wal Mart and Sears have good prices for those, your looking at anywhere between $100-$300. All in all, i’d say go to the stores that have better prices, it works out better in the long run, your taking ur chance either way. Plus you can go online, and see what people have to say about certain items, whether they liked them or not, and if it was a good buy.Hope i helped.
As long as it is the same brand…it is the same quality.
Babies R Us is expensive because it carried the most popular and best brands.
walmart is asda in the UK and i agree they have some fantastic stuff, go with it, they have to meet certain standards before they can sell car seats cots etc so they are all perfectly fine congratultions! and the amount of stuff you have to buy i always went with the cheaper option
Babies R Us is very expensive, I find stuff like cribs, change tables and car seats are the same quality (all have to pass government standards) that are cheaper at walmart.
I bought all my stuff from target and love it! I highly recommend it !
I highly recommend BabyCenter.com for any of your baby purchases. We got our name brand crib and changing table for 1/3 of the price that Babies R Us and local baby stores are charging. We also bought our mattress, changing pad, changing pad covers, and a crib toy there.
And, BabyCenter frequently has sales or your can look on Google for tons of coupon codes.
It doesn’t matter where you buy it. You do get what you pay for as in better wood, and such…but as long as it’s all rated safe, you are ok! I registered at jc penny and target and alll my stuff was quality!
All of the stores have good quality.I would go with Target.
